RRANDYANDY J DDUNNUNN MMURRAYURRAY SSTATETATE UUNIVERSITYNIVERSITY PPRESIDENTRESIDENT Dr. Randy J. Dunn became Murray State’s 11th president on Dec. 1, 2006. He also holds tenure as a professor in MSU’s Department of Educational Studies, Leadership and Counseling. Dunn served as the Illinois State Superintendent of Schools previous to taking the MSU presidency and he has chaired the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Dunn began his academic career at Memphis State University (now The University of Memphis). Dunn earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1991, having completed his bachelor’s degree in education (1980) and his master’s degree in educational administration and foundations (1983) from Illinois State University. Dunn has directly infl uenced hundreds of educators, teaching more than 11 different graduate courses and serving on more than 40 doctoral dissertation A K-20 educator, Dunn has served in almost every capacity, from classroom teacher committees during his academic career. He has also served as principal or and building principal to district superintendent and university professor. In addition to co-investigator on numerous funded grants totaling nearly $650,000. his service to state and local schools, he has distinguished himself as a noted scholar and professor in educational leadership. Dunn and his wife Ronda have four children. During his time as a professor, he published more than 29 professional articles and book chapters, and made more than 30 presentations at state and national conferences. If you are doing this tour during regular office hours (Monday through Friday, 8 am–4:30 pm); you may enter most buildings with little difficulty. However, if you are visiting campus during the weekend or evening hours some buildings may be locked. The starting point for the tour is the Curris Center and is open seven days a week, except during holiday breaks when the university is closed. This comes in compliance with the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, whose regulations state all funds ac- quired through liquor tax should provide for the prevention and control of alcoholic substances for the legalized area. The tax on liquor, which, according to Ken- tucky tax law, can be set between 6 and 8 per- cent, sparked debate among council members deciding what would be the best fit for the area.
