I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics. Interview mit GRAVEWORM Wenn Graveworm spielen, rückt schon mal die Schützenkompanie aus. Sänger Stefan Fiori über die Hintergründe, das neue Album und Luis Royo... Anläßlich des am 23. Juni erscheinenden Albums "Engraved In Black" (Review wie in der Regel üblich am Erscheinungstag) klingelte Stefan an und äußerte sich zum Endstehungsprozess des neuen Albums, Black Metal in Südtirol und die X-Mas-Festivals! Außerdem entpuppte er sich als extrem netter Zeitgenosse! Stefan: Hi, hier ist der Stefan von Graveworm! Zombie: Hi! Ich kann vermutlich davon ausgehen das "Engraved In Black" euer bislang bestes Album ist!? Stefan: Ähm...meiner Meinung nach schon, denn wir haben sicher wieder einen Schritt vorwärts gemacht, die Scheibe ist meiner Meinung nach ein Stück extremer ausgefallen als die letzten Scheiben, und das war eigentlich das was wir wollten. Und deswegen kommt es mir so vor als wäre es das beste Album das wir gemacht haben: Zombie: Liegt das daran, daß es spielerisch ausgereifter ist, daß ihr die Keyboards reduziert habt oder daran, daß es deutlich rauher als "Scourge Of Malice" ist? Stefan: So übermäßig haben wir die Keyboards nicht reduziert. Es ist halt so, daß die Gitarren mehr im Vordergrund sind und eigentlich die Basis bilden und die ganze Sache vorantreiben. Zombie: Wie groß ist der Anteil eures Produzenten Andy Classen (u. a. Holy Moses, Apokalyptische Reiter, Tankard "B-Day") daran, daß "Engraved In Black" rauher klingt? Stefan: Sagen wir so, die Songs an sich sind auch schon ein Stück härter ausgefallen, aber sicher hat Andy sehr viel dazu beigetragen. Denn der Sound kommt mir echt heavy vor und bläst ordentlich meiner Meinung nach! (Womit er völlig recht hat! - Anm.
