FOX SPORTS LAUNCHES THIRD SEASON of FULLY ELECTRIC FORMULA E with HONG KONG Eprix SEASON OPENER FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Erik Arneson Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 [email protected] FOX SPORTS LAUNCHES THIRD SEASON OF FULLY ELECTRIC FORMULA E WITH HONG KONG ePRIX SEASON OPENER Race Airs Live on FS1 with Encore Presentation on FOX Broadcast Network Season Highlighted by Recently Announced New York City ePrix Doubleheader The third season of the fully electric FIA Formula E Championship debuts Saturday, Oct. 8 (3:30 AM ET) on FS1 and FOX Sports GO live from Hong Kong, with a replay Sunday, Oct. 9 (3:00 PM or 4:30 PM)* adjacent to NFL coverage on the FOX broadcast network. The 2016-17 season is highlighted by the recently announced debut of Formula E in New York - - racing in Brooklyn on a 13-corner, 1.21-mile track on the shores of New York Harbour at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. The race -- the first FIA-sanctioned open-wheel race to take place within the five boroughs of New York City in modern history -- runs through Red Hook and will be called the New York City ePrix, a doubleheader over two days in July. Ralph Sheheen hosts FOX Sports coverage, with the returning Formula E broadcast team of Jack Nicholls, four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti and Nicki Shields. Brian Till hosts Round 2 of the 12-round series from Marrakesh on Saturday, Nov. 12 (10:30 AM ET). "The announcement that Formula E will be racing this year in New York City is massive,” Sheheen said. “This is another incredible venue where many other major motor sports sanctioning bodies have dreamed of racing but could never achieve it, yet Formula E has. The New York City race continues to prove that Formula E is not only here to stay, but it is going to be a major player in professional motor sports for years to come." MS Amlin Andretti driver Robin Frijns (NED) scored back-to- back points finishes in the first New York City ePrix (USA), watched on by celebrities including Chris Hemsworth, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. The Dutch driver claimed ninth place in both races, perfectly managing his energy usage. António Félix da Costa (POR) was unfortunate to miss the points despite showing strong pace and running in the top-ten for extended periods. He took 12th place in the first, and 15th following a drive-through penalty in the second race of the New York City ePrix. Saturday’s Race The first FIA-sanctioned motor race in the “Big Apple” was a thriller, with action throughout the field on every lap. Starting in 16th and 18th positions respectively, the MS Amlin Andretti drivers Robin Frijns and António Félix da Costa successfully navigated a chaotic opening lap to run just outside the top ten. Frijns was able to run an extra lap in the first stint, and the strategy paid off. He was in prime position in the closing laps when the Qualcomm Safety Car BMW i8 was deployed to allow marshals to recover a stranded car.

This is, amongst others, visible from a global increase in urban actors collaborating to experiment with new sustainable configurations. These so-called sustainable urban experiments, embedded in a broader niche, are not confined to a specific spatial context but will rather emerge in complex ‘place bundles’, forming a global niche. However, the formation of a global niche is interrelated with local experimentation and is thereby locally rooted. A prime example is sustainable motorsports experiment Formula E. Formula E operates on a global scale with numerous multinational companies involved but is set in urban environments and the local regional context arguably influences the formation of such events. In other words, Formula E is a global sustainable urban experiment which is locally embedded. Considerable variation in the way a sustainable urban experiment is formed locally is likely to exist. The objective of this study was to complement strategic niche management and sustainable transitions literature by understanding the specific place-specific factors under which global sustainable urban experiments are formed.
