BMW Corporate Communications Media Information IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 18th March 2017 Sixth place for the no. 25 BMW M6 GTLM in the 65th running of the Twelve Hours of Sebring. • Bill Auberlen, Alexander Sims and Kuno Wittmer finish sixth at the Twelve Hours of Sebring. • Number 24 BMW M6 GTLM and the Turner BMW M6 GT3 are forced to retire early. Sebring. In the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) in Sebring (USA), the number 25 BMW M6 GTLM, driven by Bill Auberlen (USA), Alexander Sims (GBR) and Kuno Wittmer (CAN), finished sixth in the GTLM class. The three BMW Team RLL drivers completed 334 laps in the 65th running of the endurance classic and delivered a flawless performance over the course of the 12- hour race. However, they couldn’t match the pace of the front-runners at a consistent level which made it impossible to score a top result in Florida. Victory was secured by the number 3 Corvette. John Edwards (USA), Martin Tomczyk (GER) and Nick Catsburg (NED) experienced a disappointing race, sharing driving duties in the number 24 BMW M6 GTLM. Early in the race the trio lost several laps due to technical issues. Later on, shortly before the halfway-mark, Catsburg crashed into the barriers at Turn 1 of Sebring International Raceway following another mechanical problem. This meant the race was over for the Dutchman and his team-mates. Once again the Turner Motorsport team delivered a strong race performance in the GTD class. Justin Marks (USA), Jens Klingmann (GER) and Jesse Krohn (FIN) gained several positions after starting 16th with the number 96 BMW M6 GT3. -
Double Points for MS Amlin Andretti in New York City
Media Information FIA Formula E Championship 16th July 2017 Double points for MS Amlin Andretti in New York City. • Robin Frijns twice earns points at first ever FIA-sanctioned motorsport event in New York City. • MS Amlin Andretti scores back-to-back points finishes for the first time in the season. • Double-header New York City ePrix sees sell-out crowd treated to two great races in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Munich. MS Amlin Andretti driver Robin Frijns (NED) scored back-to- back points finishes in the first New York City ePrix (USA), watched on by celebrities including Chris Hemsworth, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. The Dutch driver claimed ninth place in both races, perfectly managing his energy usage. António Félix da Costa (POR) was unfortunate to miss the points despite showing strong pace and running in the top-ten for extended periods. He took 12th place in the first, and 15th following a drive-through penalty in the second race of the New York City ePrix. Saturday’s Race The first FIA-sanctioned motor race in the “Big Apple” was a thriller, with action throughout the field on every lap. Starting in 16th and 18th positions respectively, the MS Amlin Andretti drivers Robin Frijns and António Félix da Costa successfully navigated a chaotic opening lap to run just outside the top ten. Frijns was able to run an extra lap in the first stint, and the strategy paid off. He was in prime position in the closing laps when the Qualcomm Safety Car BMW i8 was deployed to allow marshals to recover a stranded car. -

Munich. One day after the announcement that BMW is to join the FIA Formula E Championship as official manufacturer from Season 5 (2018/19), preparations are running flat out for two truly special races on this year’s calendar: New York City will host rounds 9 and 10 of the FIA Formula E Championship, on 15th and 16th July. The Challenge The United States has hosted Formula E races in previous years, but this season New York takes centre stage. The circuit is located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, alongside the Hudson River, with the classic Manhattan skyline providing the scenery. The MS Amlin Andretti team will look to return to the points in America – home race for the Andretti team – after a tough race in Germany. Félix da Costa and Frijns have both scored points during the season, mostly recently Frijns’ top-six score in Paris (FRA), and hard work between races aims to ensure further progress in New York City. -

Understanding the Place-Specific Formation Processes of Sustainable Urban Experiments a Mixed Method Comparative Case Study of Formula E
Master’s thesis - master Innovation Sciences Understanding the place-specific formation processes of sustainable urban experiments A mixed method comparative case study of Formula E July 27, 2021 Author: Marius Roeterdink, BSc Student number: 5673127 Contact: [email protected] Supervisor: Dr. J. Hoekman Second reader: Dr. ir. J.C.L Torrens Master’s Thesis – Master Innovation Sciences GEO4-2239X Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University 0 Place-specific formation processes of sustainable urban experiments Abstract Cities are increasingly recognized as frontrunners in the transition to a more sustainable society due to their assembly of technology, resources, population, culture, and economics. This is, amongst others, visible from a global increase in urban actors collaborating to experiment with new sustainable configurations. These so-called sustainable urban experiments, embedded in a broader niche, are not confined to a specific spatial context but will rather emerge in complex ‘place bundles’, forming a global niche. However, the formation of a global niche is interrelated with local experimentation and is thereby locally rooted. A prime example is sustainable motorsports experiment Formula E. Formula E operates on a global scale with numerous multinational companies involved but is set in urban environments and the local regional context arguably influences the formation of such events. In other words, Formula E is a global sustainable urban experiment which is locally embedded. Considerable variation in the way a sustainable urban experiment is formed locally is likely to exist. The objective of this study was to complement strategic niche management and sustainable transitions literature by understanding the specific place-specific factors under which global sustainable urban experiments are formed. -

BMW Corporate Communications Media Information IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 7th August 2017 Difficult Sunday for BMW Team RLL at Road America – Victory for Turner Motorsport in the GTD class. • The two BMW M6 GTLMs finish in P6 and P7. • Strong catch-up remains unrewarded for Tomczyk/Edwards. • GTD win for Klingmann and Krohn in the BMW M6 GT3. Munich. The BMW teams experienced mixed fortunes at the ninth round of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC), held at Road America (USA). While BMW Team RLL had a difficult Sunday in the GTLM class, the Turner Motorsport team celebrated a commanding win in the GTD class. The two BMW Team RLL BMW M6 GTLM cars finished sixth and seventh of the GTLM class respectively. Alexander Sims (GBR) and Bill Auberlen (USA) started from third on the grid in the number 25 car. Sims quickly jumped into second and began hounding the leader. The Brit handed over to Auberlen on lap 25. The experienced BMW driver was forced to return to the pits with a suspension issue. The crew effected repairs to the damper, but the number car 25 lost two laps. Two caution periods in the final hour of the race allowed Sims, who replaced Auberlen on lap 51, to regain the lead lap and challenge for a fourth place finish. Contact, however, with a Corvette on the final lap of the race caused damage which slowed Sims’ progress and he ultimately finished sixth. Martin Tomczyk (GER) and John Edwards (USA) set the fifth fastest time in qualifying with the number 24 sister car but were forced to start from the rear after a precautionary engine change. -
