    LC Paper No. CB(4)590/15-16(06) For discussion on 22 February 2016 Legislative Council Panel on Economic Development Update on Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Purpose This paper updates Members on the operation of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (“HKDL”) in Fiscal Year 2015 (“FY15”)1. FY15 Performance 2. During FY15 of the HKDL, the tourism industry of Hong Kong was greeted with great challenges due to external factors as well as overall market condition and sentiment. Overnight tourists to Hong Kong, as a major source of guests for the HKDL, also recorded a decline in numbers owing to the external environment, in particular the exchange rate factor. In the light of the changes in number and structure of overnight tourist arrivals to Hong Kong, the business of the HKDL was also considerably impacted. 3. The HKDL received 6.8 million visitors in the year, which is 9% lower than prior year. This represents the third highest attendance since opening. Cumulative attendance since its opening in 2005 has exceeded 58 million as at the end of FY15. Local, Mainland and international visitors respectively accounted for 39%, 41% and 20% of total attendance for the year. Local attendance achieved a record high as a result of a series of promotions and special offers specifically targeted at the local market. 1 The Fiscal Year of the HKDL is generally a 52-week or 53-week period from October of the previous year to September of the year, with the Saturday closest to 30 September as the last day of the Fiscal Year.

Breathtaking firework shows have long been a Disneyland® Resort tradition and “Disneyland Forever” soars to new levels, immersing Guests from the tips of their toes to the brilliant pyrotechnic bursts above, thanks to special effects that turn the storefronts of Main Street, U.S.A., the Matterhorn and the facade of “it’s a small world” into gigantic projection screens filled with color, characters and surprises. • “World of Color – Celebrate! The annual, family-friendly Halloween experience includes spooky transformations of Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain, plus special décor, themed foods and merchandise. Haunted Mansion Holiday in New Orleans Square has become a thrilling Disneyland® Park Halloween tradition. Jack Skellington from the Walt Disney Pictures classic “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” moves into the Mansion to spark a collision between Halloween and Christmas. As in past years, some eerie new touches have been added to the Haunted Mansion Holiday experience. The Hatbox Ghost, who recently rejoined the Mansion’s happy haunts, is staying to celebrate Halloween and Christmas with Jack Skellington and his friends. Another Halloween favorite is Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, a Halloween-themed reimagining of the popular thrill ride in Tomorrowland. Guests on board the speeding Space Mountain vehicles are thrust into a ghostly galaxy where they are bombarded with eerie screams, sound effects and music. Spine-chilling spirits pop out of the darkness, appearing to reach out and menace space travelers. Halloween thrill-seekers will enjoy visiting Disney California Adventure® Park to sample year-round excitement on California Screamin’ roller coaster, Radiator Springs Racers, Soarin’ Over California and Grizzly River Run.
