LC Paper No. CB(4)590/15-16(06) For discussion on 22 February 2016 Legislative Council Panel on Economic Development Update on Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Purpose This paper updates Members on the operation of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (“HKDL”) in Fiscal Year 2015 (“FY15”)1. FY15 Performance 2. During FY15 of the HKDL, the tourism industry of Hong Kong was greeted with great challenges due to external factors as well as overall market condition and sentiment. Overnight tourists to Hong Kong, as a major source of guests for the HKDL, also recorded a decline in numbers owing to the external environment, in particular the exchange rate factor. In the light of the changes in number and structure of overnight tourist arrivals to Hong Kong, the business of the HKDL was also considerably impacted. 3. The HKDL received 6.8 million visitors in the year, which is 9% lower than prior year. This represents the third highest attendance since opening. Cumulative attendance since its opening in 2005 has exceeded 58 million as at the end of FY15. Local, Mainland and international visitors respectively accounted for 39%, 41% and 20% of total attendance for the year. Local attendance achieved a record high as a result of a series of promotions and special offers specifically targeted at the local market. 1 The Fiscal Year of the HKDL is generally a 52-week or 53-week period from October of the previous year to September of the year, with the Saturday closest to 30 September as the last day of the Fiscal Year.

The awards are a testimony to HKDL’s efforts in creating magical experiences for guests through continuous innovation since opening 10 years ago. In the judging results being announced recently, “Disney Paint the Night” Parade was honored with two awards, namely the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Parade Spectacular from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and the 2015 Brass Ring Award for Best Multimedia Spectacular from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). TEA is an international association representing the world’s leading members of compelling places and experiences. The annual Thea Awards recognize outstanding themed entertainment and experience design projects worldwide for their excellence in creating extraordinary guest and visitor experiences, attractions, exhibits and places. TEA said, “the new ‘Disney Paint the Night’ is a marvel of lighting technology, creative artistry, storytelling, showmanship, live performance and interactivity, centered around beloved Disney characters, both recent and classic.” This is the second time HKDL has been honored with such prestigious recognition. In 2013, Mystic Manor received the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Attraction. IAAPA is the largest international trade association for amusement facilities and attractions, and is dedicated to the preservation and prosperity of the attractions industry. The IAAPA Brass Ring Awards are a mark of distinction, symbolizing excellent achievements in the global attractions industry.

Haunted Mansion Holiday in New Orleans Square has become a thrilling Disneyland® Park Halloween tradition. Jack Skellington from the Walt Disney Pictures classic “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” moves into the Mansion to spark a collision between Halloween and Christmas. As in past years, some eerie new touches have been added to the Haunted Mansion Holiday experience. The Hatbox Ghost, who recently rejoined the Mansion’s happy haunts, is staying to celebrate Halloween and Christmas with Jack Skellington and his friends.
