One of the fundamental concepts involved in eco-hydrology is that the timing and availability of freshwater is intimately linked to ecosystem processes, and the goods and services provided by fresh waters to societies. This means that emphasis is placed on the hydrological cycle and its effects on ecological processes and human well-being. Limnology Limnology is the science that deals with the physical, chemical and biological properties and features of fresh waters. A professional who studies fresh water systems is a limnologist. Lotic System: The lotic environment is consisting of all inland waters in which entire water body continually flows in a definite direction. etc. rivers streams. Lentic system: The lentic environment has been including all inland waters in which water has been not continually flowing in a definite direction. Standing waters Western Ghats The Western Ghats hill range extends along the west coast of India, covering an area of 160,000 square kilometers. The presence of these hills creates major precipitation gradients that strongly influence regional climate, hydrology and the distribution of vegetation types and endemic plants. Biodiversity Although the total area is less than 6 percent of the land area of India, the Western Ghats contains more than 30 percent of all plant, fish, fauna, bird, and mammal species found in India. -

Wild Life Sanctuaries in INDIA
A M K RESOURCE WORLD GENERAL KNOWLEDGE www.amkresourceinfo.com Wild Life Sanctuaries in INDIA Wildlife Sanctuaries in India are 441 in number. They are a home to hundreds and thousands of various flora and fauna. A wide variety of species thrive in such Wildlife Sanctuaries. With the ever growing cement – jungle, it is of utmost importance to protect and conserve wildlife and give them their own, natural space to survive Wildlife Sanctuaries are established by IUCN category II protected areas. A wildlife sanctuary is a place of refuge where abused, injured, endangered animals live in peace and dignity. Senchal Game Sanctuary. Established in 1915 is the oldest of such sanctuaries in India. Chal Batohi, in Gujarat is the largest Wildlife Sanctuary in India. The conservative measures taken by the Indian Government for the conservation of Tigers was awarded by a 30% rise in the number of tigers in 2015. According to the Red Data Book of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are 47 critically endangered species in India. DO YOU KNOW? Wildlife sanctuaries in India are established by IUCN category II protected areas. India has 537 wildlife sanctuaries referred to as wildlife sanctuaries category IV protected areas. Among these, the 50 tiger reserves are governed by Project Tiger, and are of special significance in the conservation of the tiger. Some wildlife sanctuaries in India are specifically named bird sanctuary, e.g., Keoladeo National Park before attaining National Park status. Many of them being referred as as a particular animal such as Jawai leopard sanctuary in Rajasthan. -

Sankaran Unni International Water Management IWMI is a Future Harvest Center Institute supported by the CGIAR Research Reports IWMI’s mission is to improve water and land resources management for food, livelihoods and nature. In serving this mission, IWMI concentrates on the integration of policies, technologies and management systems to achieve workable solutions to real problems—practical, relevant results in the field of irrigation and water and land resources. The publications in this series cover a wide range of subjects—from computer modeling to experience with water user associations—and vary in content from directly applicable research to more basic studies, on which applied work ultimately depends. A similar alert has been sounded along the course of the west flowing rivers Krishna, Bhima and their tributaries. Post oil crises shifted the focus of energy planners towards renewable resources and energy conservation. Biomass accounts for nearly 33% of a developing country’s energy needs. In India, it meets about 75% of the rural energy needs. In Karnataka, non-commercial energy sources like firewood, agricultural residues, charcoal and cowdung account for 53.2%. The energy released by the reaction of organic carbon (of bioresources) with oxygen is referred as bioenergy. Bioresource availability is highly diversified and it depends on the region’s agro-climatic conditions. Inventorying of these resources is required for describing the quality, quantity, change, productivity, condition of bio resources and requirement in a given area. The present study assesses talukwise bioresource status across the agro-climatic zones of Karnataka, considering the bioenergy availability (from agriculture, horticulture, forests and plantations) and sector-wise energy demand (domestic, agriculture, industry, etc.). -

These assessment tool (SWAT) and Geographical information system watersheds come under Manjira river which is the tributary (GIS). The water balance components for watersheds in the of India’s second largest river Godavari and flows through Manjira River were determined by using SWAT model and GIS. some parts of Marathwada region. The various GIS data Determination of these water balance components helps to study direct and indirect factors affecting characteristics of selected such as soil data, LU/LC, DEM used as inputs in SWAT to watersheds. Manjira River contains total 28 watersheds among determine water balance components of study area. The them 2 were selected having watershed code as MNJR008 and water balancing components helps in water budgeting, gives MNJR011 specified by the Central Ground Water Board.
