STANFORD MAKES FIFTH STRAIGHT TRIP TO COLLEGE CUP Defending national champion STANFORD !nds itself in familiar territory after edging UCLA, 2-1, in its NCAA quarter!nal matchup. The Cardinal has reached its !fth consecutive College Cup semi!nal (sixth overall), where it will take on North Carolina. The Tar Heels were granted a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament after posting a 10-5-2 regular-season record and earning a No. 13 billing in the NSCAA’s !nal regular season poll. The College Cup is set to take place Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 at Torero Stadium in San Diego, Calif. Six Pac-12 teams earned NCAA tournament bids in 2012, and four teams hosted !rst round matches.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE NCAA TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP (Times local to site) No. 1 Stanford (21-1-1) vs. No. 2 North Carolina (13-5-3) Friday, November 9 (NCAA First Round) Stanford rode a pair of second-half goals by Lo’eau LaBonta to a 2-1 victory over UCLA in the quarter!nals. The Cardinal trailed 2-1 at the half, but a late Idaho State at No. 1 STANFORD STAN, 3-0 surge lifted the Pac-12 champs over the Bruins for the second time in less No. 3 Baylor at ARIZONA STATE BAY, 3-1 than a month. WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - In a vote by the Conference coaches, UCLA senior forward Zakiya Bywaters was named Pac-12 Player of the Year, CALIFORNIA freshman forward Ifeoma Onumonu was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and STANFORD head coach Paul Ratcliffe was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. The All-Pac-12 teams were also announced.

Pac-12 Player of the Year -- Zakiya Bywaters, UCLA The Las Vegas native is the sixth Bruin to be named Conference Player of the Year. The senior closed out the 2012 regular season as the Pac-12 leader in points (30), goals (13), and game-winning goals (5) and anchored an offensive unit that ranked in the top two in the Conference in every major statistical category. She was the Soccer America National Player of the Week in mid-September and was twice named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. Bywaters is a three time all-conference performer and was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team in 2009. She has started 84 of 88 games for the Bruins, tallying 63 career points (21 goals, 21 assists).

Pac-12 Freshman of the Year -- Ifeoma Onumonu, California Ifeoma Onumonu was a force for California this season from the get-go, pacing the Bears and leading all Pac-12 freshmen in goals (11), assists (5), and points (30). The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native ranked second in the Conference in goals and points and tied for sixth in assists per game (0.26). Onumonu was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week in early October after a weekend in which she notched three goals and an assist in a pair of wins over Colorado and Utah.

Pac-12 Coach of the Year -- Paul Ratcliffe, Stanford Ratcliffe has been voted the Conference’s top coach for the !fth straight year after leading Stanford to its fourth consecutive Pac-12 title. The Cardinal also posted its fourth straight perfect Conference record. The three-time national coach of the year boasts a 175-36-20 (.801) record in his nine years with the program, including a staggering 106-5-5 (.931) record since 2008. Stanford has made four straight College Cup appearances, !nishing as the NCAA runner-up in 2009 and 2010 and winning the NCAA Championship in 2011.

STANFORD’S NOGUEIRA NAMED SENIOR CLASS AWARDS FINALIST

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – STANFORD mid!elder Mariah Nogueira is one of 10 NCAA women’s soccer players selected as !nalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

The Senior CLASS Award is given to student-athletes who excel both on and off the !eld. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classi!ed as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

CLASS, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encour- ages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Nogueira, who hails from Westminster Calif., is a four-year starter for the Cardinal. She has been a key contributor to a program that has won three-consecu- tive Pac-12 titles, clinched three-straight berths in the NCAA College Cup !nals and won the 2011 national championship. Nogueira, a three-time all-confer- ence performer, garnered NSCAA third team All-America honors and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year accolades in 2009.

A two-year NSCAA Scholar All-West honorable mention selection, Nogueira maintains a 3.63 cumulative GPA. She has twice been a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selection and has helped the Cardinal to three-consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Awards. She is on track to graduate in Spring, 2013. In the community, Nogueira has volunteered with Special Olympics and the Bay Area Sports Initiative and has worked the Halloween Carnival in East Palo Alto. She has devoted time during the week to tutoring young students from East Palo Alto and visiting the elderly and has been active in Kappa Alpha Theta soror- ity philanthropy events. Additionally, she has been a Sunday School teacher and currently serves as the LDS-Single Adults co-president. She has volunteered at youth soccer development camps throughout Huntington Beach, Long Beach and Paci!c Palisades, and feeds the homeless during holidays. Nogueira traveled to the Dominican Republic in the Spring of 2011 with Kids Alive International, a non-pro!t organization that provides spiritual, physical, educational and emotional support to underprivileged children around the world. With Kids Alive, Nogueira helped build a school and taught PE classes.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2012 Women’s College Cup Championships, which take place November 30 and December 2 in San Diego, Calif. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the candidate who best exempli- !es excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
