Some Albums to Keep Your Toes Warm This October Pt 2
Some Albums To Keep Your Toes Warm This October Pt 2. Bittles‘ Magazine | Record Review I was arm-wrestling a tiger the other day (my editor told me I had to make the beginning of my articles more exciting) when I suddenly realised that I had no time for such frivolity as I had some great albums to review. Quickly admitting defeat, I retreated to my listening studio (bedroom) and immersed myself in some of the fantastic records that will be hitting the record store shelves this October. By JOHN BITTLES We have the UK house of Huxley, the indie bleakness of Grouper, the disco diva-isms of Munk, the techno bass of Distal and so much more. But really, in a month when there is, finally, a new album by Glaswegian duo Slam, there is only one place we can begin. Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle have long been established as bona fide legends of the house and techno scene! Their record label Soma is over 400 releases old, their DJ sets at clubs like The Sub Club and The Arches in Glasgow are discussed with an air of awed reverence, and, as Slam, the duo have released some of the finest electronic music known to man. And now, in the year 2014 they give us their first album in seven years with the deep and moody brilliance of Reverse Proceed. The cinematic ambience of Tokyo Subway, Visual Capture and the title track open proceedings and are the perfect introduction to the deliciously deep sounds to come. In fact it’s not until the techno futurism of Synchronicity that we even get our very first sign of a beat. -

Nothing Matters When We're Dancing« – November's New Albums
»Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing« – November’s new albums Bittles‘ Magazine | Record Review Ok, I admit it. I am addicted to music! Yet, you can hardly blame me, when there are so many great new albums out there all vying desperately for my time and love. Why, in November alone we have absolutely amazing new records by the likes of Recondite, Clark, Juju & Jordash, Frank & Tony, Biblo, The Twilight Sad and many, many more. Is it any wonder that I hardly ever leave the house anymore, my friends think I’m dead and that my girlfriend has dumped me because I insist on keeping my headphones on when we talk? But enough about me, these are the LPs that should be enriching your life right now. By JOHN BITTLES This month we’ll start with an album that is ideal for those looking for a rich, deep journey into the very heart of techno/house. The name Recondite should be familiar to anyone who has even a passing interest in electronic music after a career releasing beautifully textured music for labels like Ghostly International, Acid Test, and Hotflush. This November sees the arrival of his rather splendid new LP, Iffy on the ever wonderful Innervisions label. The album is a slow, sultry affair, and contains ten tracks of immaculately produced techno that are so lush and spacious sounding you will be left with goose-bumps for weeks. Opener Baro resembles a lost John Carpenter soundtrack, Levo has a slow, steady dance floor pulse, Garbo is so good I get an erection when it plays, while Jim Jams finishes things off with a warm, introspective air. -

No Bounds 11——13.10.19 Event Programme Music, Art, Film screen- ings, Talks Workshops Introduction Joe Muggs Optimism isn’t really in fashion, and understandably so. We’re overwhelmed by populists, scammers, liars, Fascists, fools of the worst sort, and earnest attempts to counter this takeover are themselves all too often taken over by further Fascists, fools and saviours with feet of clay. The world is burning and melting around us, and we seem to be volunteering to put in hours of labour for free and live under constant surveillance – indeed we even seem to be willing to pay for the privilege. Debt is normality, the lie of austerity is normality, slaughter and torture being beamed into our personal timelines is normality, withering irony and pompous righteousness as cloaks for the worst and most hateful views are normality. Meanwhile in the cultural sphere, recorded music is so devalued that any of the big four tech giants could buy the entire global music industry with the loose change down the back of their sofas, and the only reason they don’t is that it’s not worth the hassle. But – and it’s a big but [“big butt” – Beavis & Butthead cackle] – somehow there’s a lot going on that is pumped full of hope. Not hope in the save-the-world sense, mind. OK there’s some of that around, but even Greta Thunberg’s rhetoric is shot through with a huge amount of bleakness. But small scale, human level stuff where little things that people do in themselves make looking a week, a month, a year forward seem not just bearable but – in the moment at least – exciting. -

New Bass Genres Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BEATPORT IS EXPANDING ITS BASS GENRES Beatport introduces 140 / Deep Dubstep / Grime, Bass / Club, and Breaks / Breakbeat / UK Bass to its genre pages. BERLIN, DE - February 4th, 2021 - Beatport, the world's number one destination for electronic music, has just announced that it will be introducing two new genres to the store — 140 / Deep Dubstep / Grime and Bass / Club, while also updating its current Breaks sections to Breaks / Breakbeat / UK Bass. By launching these three new and remodeled genre pages on the store, Beatport will give artists, distributors, and labels a new home where their distinct sounds can thrive amongst more like-minded tunes with their own genre page, Top 100 charts, dedicated playlists, store spotlights, a dedicated section in Beatport LINK, and more. To make this expansion possible and help further improve Beatport’s user experience, its Leftfield House / Techno and Leftfield Bass sections will cease to exist. Releases on the Leftfield pages will be recategorized amongst these three new genre sections. We are confident that this change will bring a clearer classification of sounds and greater representation to bass music communities. Represented by labels like DUPLOC, White Peach, Deep Medi Musik, and acts such as Sicaria Sound, Hypho, and Teffa, the new 140 / Deep Dubstep / Grime categorization will host the sonic creations that call back the origins of the Dubstep genre and continue to innovate 140 BPM sound system culture worldwide. Speaking on the importance of distinguishing the two sides of dubstep, DUPLOC's label owner Pieter Grauwels said: "It is fair to say that after the 2010 era, the 'heavy' and 'deep' sides of dubstep have been strongly separated, especially in terms of the communities surrounding the two sides. -
