ABOUT US

Thozhan (Reg No:1931/2007) , a social reform group incepted on 14th Aug’07 by four youngsters with the vision of changing the society and make this country a wonderful nation in the world. Thozhan has strong presence in chennai with more than 200 volunteers base and also has teams operating in Thiruppur and Rajapalayam. Thozhan has wide area of social activities, such as,

Blood , Eye and Organ Donation :

Thozhan carries the messages on Eye, Organ and Blood donation to the people. Thozhan also facilitates registration by Donors. Already 370+ Donors have registered for eyes/blood/organs. In 2013, through Thozhan, Mrs. Shanthi had donated her organs and Mrs. Padma had donated her eyes.

Traffic Awareness :

As per Global status report 2013, In India more than 2, 31,000 People losing their lives in Road accidents every year, which means 26persons die every one hour.

Accidents are becoming another important social issue. Thozhan is taking up the same by doing public awareness events across chennai for the past 24 months .

As a major milestone, “ACCIDENT FREE NATION", a grant social event of taking responsibility of 100 signals in Chennai was successfully executed on Aug 10th Sunday 4:30PM -6:30PM for a massive Road Safety Awareness with more than 1500 volunteers & 100 leaders.

Environment :

As an initiative to protect environment, Thozhan does Plastic awareness across chennai.

Street cleaning activities also done across chennai streets and even R10 police station was cleaned up by Thozhan volunteers on 19.05.12.

Plantation is a counter measure for degrading environment condition.We has planted 266 sapling pudhupakkam village in a single day. Also plantation was carried out at various location such as ramakrishana mission, Ashok pilar Kendriya Vidhyalaya , Pudhur high school,etc.,

Supporting Homes –

We strongly believe that Oldage/orphan homes should not be there in future. We also visit any one oldage/orphan home every month and contribute to their requirement. Last year support was extended to homes around chennai for ~4 lakhs.

Leaders Mentoring:

We believe, Good leaders make Great nation. Communication is a vital part of good leader. We conduct speech workshop for volunteers every second Saturday of the month. Any social topic will be chosen and discussed.

Safety Torch Run

Pheidippides, is said to have run from Marathon to Athens to deliver message of a victory to people from Marathon to Athens. We had planned to deliver the message of Road Safety and its importance across chennai city.

On account of Road safety week (2nd Jan’15-7th Jan’15), We had planned “Safety Torch Run”, a relay run with flame of light torch by individuals, who follow road safety rules on daily life, through critical spots of chennai to spread out the road safety messages to the people.

Safety Torch: 65Kms Relay run by Volunteers across chennai city for spreading out the road safety messages for bringing out the awareness among people. On 11.01.15, the Run started at 6 am at Valluvar Kottam and an ended at Ashok Pillar at 4 pm. Route map is as below, The Event objective was to bring awareness on, • Importance of stop line and abiding Traffic signal. • Necessities if wearing helmet and seat belt. • Insisting Safe Road crossing by insisting pedestrians on following rules. • Risks of driving with distractions (Mobile phones, Music players, etc.,) • Dangers of drunken driving and risks associated with it.

Run Procedure:

 The 65kms distance was divided into Three Phases and 23 Junctions.

 Before running, Every runner should take Pledge to follow traffic rules throughout their life and

sign a commitment.

 Each Junction has a group of three/four runners

 To avoid disturbance or distraction to public, the run was a relay one, which means one person

carries the torch and run from one point to another. Other 2 or3 runners follow the torch in

cycle till his point reach.

Highlights :

Before opening ceremony, Dhana & Team performed Flash Mob on Road Safety.

 The ceremony begun with the Naattu Vaazhthu song.  Mrs Seetha Lakshmi lit off the light of “Accident Free Nation”.  Welcome address delivered by Mr Karthik  Special Guest address was given by Mr Jahir Hussain and Mr Seetha Lakshmi.  All the volunteers and Chief guest took the pledge to follow traffic rules.  Mrs Seetha Lakhshmi lit the safety torch with the flame to make our Accident Free Nation.  Mr Jahir Hussain begun the run for 65kms relay run from Valluvar Kottam.  All the participants were so excited to be a part of the event and felt proud to run for the cause of road safety awareness.

Highlights :

 The Saftey torch which carried the message of Accident Free Nation” across chennai city was received by Mr Kalyanji.  Closing Ceremony begun with the Naattu Vaazhthu song.  Welcome address delivered by Mr Nakkeeran  “Safety torch run”-Event summary deliverd by Mr Radhakrishnan.  Model Signal document and animation video were released by Mr Kalyanji and received by Mr Jagadeesh.  Special Guest address was given by Mr Kalyanji.  All the volunteers and Chief guest took the pledge to follow traffic rules.  Happiness note delivered by Mr Rajesh Kanna.  All the participants were so happy and determined to follow traffic rules.

Overall the event was so successful. Everyone participated with social

responsibility and commitment. Also the open public across chennai, received the

message to make this country an “Accident Free Nation”
