Welcome to the 22nd International IAKS Congress in Cologne. It is an honour to be the patron of this year’s event and I am pleased that it will focus on aims which are of great signifi - cance to SportAccord.

The next three days will bring us closer towards answering some of the most diffi cult questions in the sports industry nowadays. These are how innovation and new trends can positively impact the provision of sustainable and enduring sports facilities as well as how to provide appealing and needs-based leisure activities.

At SportAccord, it is our social responsibility to support and promote sustainability amongst our 105 members. Our aim is to ensure that the social, environmental and economic impacts and opportunities of their activities are responsibly managed.

We support our members in making sustainabi- lity an integral part of the events that they host; to maximise positive impact, minimise negative impact and foster balanced, enduring growth.

The IAKS Congress will allow for a wide repre- sentation of participants to exchange knowledge and establish contacts with international and local experts and stakeholders. I trust that every- one will make the most of this great opportunity for a productive dialogue. Congress programme Thursday, 27th October
