This role will provide strategic direction for the growth and optimization of the system’s support services areas which include Environmental Services, Safety & (and) Security, Plant Engineering, Food & Nutrition and Patient Transport. The VP of Support Services Provides leadership to the directors and managers of the designated areas. He/she directs activities to ensure the effective and efficient coordination of divisional functions to provide input and an impact on programs and decisions of the University Health Care System (UHCS). The VP will enhance hospital campuses for patients by having strong alignment with the support and clinical functions. Oversees and directs the activities of directors and managers of designated areas. 2. Monitors and coordinates the activities of departments within the division to assure delivery of services in the most efficient and effective manner. 3. Reviews and recommends divisional operating and capital budgets; monitors operating and capital budgets to provide sound financial operation of the division 4. Provides individual direction and guidance to department heads and other managers within the division to assure the implementation and performance of sound management practices 5. Monitors the safety and security programs to assure the safest possible physical plant environment and the compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements 6. Recruits and develops competent department head and other appropriate staff. Maintains for self and subordinate staff professional growth and development to assure technical competence and currency of knowledge. 7. Conducts and/or participates in any special studies, projects or assignments as requested or directed to contribute to overall corporate management. 8. Provides regular updates and reports to the Executive VP/COO Acute Care Services 9. Works with the Directors or managers in establishing annual work plans and monitors its execution throughout the year. Assigns responsibility to the core staff and the enterprise's staff for completion of the work plan goals. 10. Works with the Directors and managers in developing the annual budget. Monitors the enterprise's financial performance relative to budget throughout the year. 11. Engages other UHCS Shared Services, e.g., Supply Chain, Legal, Human Resources, etc., when appropriate 12. Establishes staff performance benchmarks, establishes processes to measure performance and holds the Directors and managers accountable to achieve results 13. Establishes regularly scheduled meetings with the Directors, managers, executive team, service line teams, and core staff. 14. Oversees the development and implementation of the enterprise's policies and procedures and reviews and approves same when submitted by the Directors or managers. 15. Attends Board meetings and Management Committee meetings, and provides regular reports about management and enterprise related issues upon request. 16. Reviews and evaluates Directors and managers performance and conducts annual performance evaluation. Works with Human Resources or search firm, as appropriate, in recruiting and selecting a new Director when there is transition. * Leadership Opportunities and Expectations: 1. Serves as a member of and provides input to the Management Committee to contribute to the development and implementation of corporate goals, objectives, policies and procedures 2. Chairs the Safety Committee 3. Serves as a dynamic and effective team leader in appropriately staffing, supporting and managing the Support Services division. 4. Recommends cost-effective, quality driven operation changes. 5. Achieves a record of excellence in operations management services for Support Services. 6. Forges positive and effective working relations with key constituents in UHCS and in affiliated enterprises, in particular with enterprise Administrator and Executive Directors, Board Chairs, and other key professionals. 7. Works collaboratively with UHCS colleagues and UHCS Executive VP/COO Acute Care Services in order to achieve optimum performance of UHCS 8. Ensures the use of efficient, effective, “best practice” management services across the UHCS enterprise operations 9. Establishes visibility as UHCS VP.
