Zeven identieke zussen doen er alles aan om uit handen te blijven van het bureau. De meisjes, Maandag, Dinsdag, Woensdag, Donderdag, Vrijdag, Zaterdag en Zondag, doen dit door zich voor te doen als één persoon. Zo zetten ze het bureau op het verkeerde been. The siblings share one public face, the stoic, uber-professional and successful Karen Settman who acts as the cover identity for all the sisters. Karen’s objective is to blend in and remain under the radar of the Child Allocation Bureau. She is the means by which the Settmans can earn money and survive. Helmed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), who received the Best Director accolade at the Puchon International Film Festival, the stellar supporting cast includes GLENN CLOSE as Nicolette Cayman, the head of the Child Allocation Bureau and WILLEM DAFOE as Terrence Settman, the siblings’ grandfather. The original screenplay for “WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY?” made it onto the prestigious Hollywood Blacklist. Screenwriter Max Botkin first came up with the concept back in 2001 and the identical siblings were originally male. When director Tommy Wirkola boarded the project, he felt that making them female would add a more exciting dynamic and having long admired the work of Noomi Rapace, he figured she could pull off the challenge of portraying the seven siblings. Wirkola called Rapace and said that he wanted to pitch her to the producers as the lead. Botkin called this development, “A stroke of genius on Tommy’s part”. In einer nicht allzu fernen Zukunft nimmt die Überbevöl- kerung der Erde drastisch zu. Um die ultimative Kata- strophe zu verhindern, beschließt die Regierung die sogenannte Ein-Kind-Regelung. Ab dem Zweitgebore- nen muss jedes Kind abgegeben und in einen künstli- chen Kryo-Schlaf versetzt werden – bis die Welt soweit ist, für wirklich alle genügend Ressourcen bereitstellen zu können. Als in einem Krankenhaus kurze Zeit später Siebenlinge geboren werden, weiß ihr Großvater Ter- rence, dass er nun schnell handeln muss, nachdem bei der Geburt seine eigene Tochter Karen gestorben ist.     Seven Sisters Arriva nelle sale italiane Seven Sisters, un fantastico film dalle influenze cyberpunk e dagli scenari futuristici che richiamano opere comeBrazil , Il Quinto Elemento o Blade Runner. La sceneggiatura di questa pellicola ha una storia abbastanza travagliata: scritta daMax Botkin nel 2001, Seven Sister, che ai tempi vedeva in realtà dei protagonisti uomini, non arrivò mai a trovare un produttore e finì per diventare una delle sceneggiature più belle mai scritte ma al contempo per molto tempo mai arrivate su grande schermo. In anni recenti,Tommy Wirkola, regista di alcuni film bizzarri come Hansel e Gretel: Cacciatori di Streghe, Dead Snow e Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead, ha ripescato la sceneggiatura e ne ha traslato la storia al femminile; la protagonistaNoomi Rapace – che abbiamo visto in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows e in Prometheus di Ridley Scott – fu chiamata per il ruolo e ha dato vita, insieme ad altri attori di altissimo calibro come Willem Dafoe e Glenn Close, a questa bellissima storia futuristica affascinante, distopica e a tratti claustrofobica. Anni di catastrofi e disastri naturali provocano disordine e carestie in tutto il mondo, ma la scienza arriva in soccorso alle crisi alimentari e, grazie a sofisticate tecniche scientifiche, gli scaffali dei supermercati tornano riforniti e colmi per venire incontro alle domande dei consumatori. Tuttavia l’alterazione della natura provoca negli umani alterazioni di DNA e, come conseguenza, si assiste a una crescita di malformazioni ma soprattutto dei parti plurigemellari.
