To elevate the art of dancing and promote the welfare of its members by en couraging legislation, State and National, for the proper regulation of dancing and the protection of the public and the legitimate teacher from the unscrupulous and incompetent pretender. To give full support for tlie betterment of humanity by encouraging and teach ing only the highest grade of dances, such as those approved by this Association. To originate and adopt new dances and establish a uniform method of teaching them. TO PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS. The much needed reforms in dancing can be brought about only through or ganization. All progressive professions are organized; why not the Dancing Masters? Competent teachers of good moral character are invited to join. The initiation fee is only $3(1.00, which also pays dues for the first year. The greatest experts are engaged to give work free to members at the annual meetings. Each person, when initiated, will receive an elegant diploma, which is a recogni tion of their ability and membership. For "Course of Study," see list of class work provided free of charge for all members who attend the annual meetings. REQUIREMENTS. To be eligible, all persons applying for Membership must: (1) BF/OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER. (2) Be vouched for by three representative persons in their home city, ai reference. (3) Have taught dancing at least three years. (4) Be recognized in their homo city as progressive and thorough teachers. (5) Be willing to be taught, or teach; with a desire through fraternity to ele vate the Art of Dancing. (fi) Pass a satisfactory examination, to show that they are qualified to teach dancing.     Syllabus of Dance Descriptions STOCKTON FOLK DANCE CAMP – 2016 – FINAL 7/31/2016 In Memoriam Floyd Davis 1927 – 2016 Floyd Davis was born and raised in Modesto. He started dancing in the Modesto/Turlock area in 1947, became one of the teachers for the Modesto Folk Dancers in 1955, and was eventually awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for dance by the Stanislaus Arts Council. Floyd loved to bake and was famous for his Chocolate Kahlua cake, which he made every year to auction off at the Stockton Folk Dance Camp Wednesday auction. Floyd was tireless in promoting folk dancing and usually danced three times a week – with the Del Valle Folk Dancers in Livermore, the Modesto Folk Dancers and the Village Dancers. In his last years, Alzheimer’s disease robbed him of his extensive knowledge and memory of hundreds, if not thousands, of folk dances. A celebration for his 89th birthday was held at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock on January 29 and was attended by many of his well-wishers from all over northern California. Although Floyd could not attend, a DVD was made of the event and he was able to view it and he enjoyed seeing familiar faces from his dancing days. He died less than a month later. Floyd missed attending Stockton Folk Dance Camp only once between 1970 and 2013. Sidney Messer 1926 – 2015 Sidney Messer died in November, 2015, at the age of 89. Many California folk dancers will remember his name because theny sent checks for their Federation membership to him for nine years.

Doctor of Musical Arts (Performance), May 2007, 105 pp., 5 tables, 65 examples, references, 97 titles. The primary purpose of this study is to address performance issues in the Polish Fantasy, Op. 19, by examining characteristics of Polish folk dances and how they are incorporated in this unique work by Paderewski. The study includes a comprehensive history of the fantasy in order to understand how Paderewski used various codified generic aspects of the solo piano fantasy, as well as those of the one-movement concerto introduced by nineteenth-century composers such as Weber and Liszt. Given that the Polish Fantasy, Op. 19, as well as most of Paderewski’s compositions, have been performed more frequently in the last twenty years, an analysis of the combination of the three characteristic aspects of the Polish Fantasy, Op.19 - Polish folk music, the generic rhetoric of a fantasy and the one- movement concerto - would aid scholars and performers alike in better understanding the composition’s engagement with various traditions and how best to make decisions about those traditions when approaching the work in a concert setting.

In Section 1, a short introduction to the topic is presented. Section 2 covers theoretical background crucial to understand the topic, defining the notion of eponym vital to the paper as well as that of sociolect of the dance community. Moving on to the methodology of this research, Section 3 contains the corpus of 56 Polish eponyms in dance terminology, gathered mostly from books such as Kopaliński’s “Słownik eponimów, czyli wyrazów odimiennych” (1996), his “Słownik wyrazów obcych i zwrotów obcojęzycznych” (2003), Chodkowski’s “Encyklopedia muzyki” (1995), Dąbrowska’s “W kręgu polskich tańców ludowych” (1979) and during various lectures conducted by dance teachers, along with their English translations.

    Polskie tańce narodowe Opracowały: Anna Płoska i Olga Gracz Do wielkiej piątki polskich tańców narodowych należą: mazur, oberek, kujawiak, krakowiak, polonez. MAZUR Pochodzi z Mazowsza, a nazwa wywodzi się od mazurków, które tańczono na wiejskich zabawach. To taniec w żywym tempie i metrum 3/4 lub 3/8. W XIX wieku zaczął zdobywać popularność na dworach szlacheckich. Ważnymi elementami mazura są: swobodna gestyka rąk i głowy, improwizacyjny charakter kompozycji tańca. Za dawnych czasów przebieg mazura zależał od tancerza z pierwszej pary. While a large amount of research has focused on joint action in dyads, the Dance mechanisms of coordination in larger groups are not well understood. In the present study, we Joint action explored the coordination dynamics of a group of folk dancers by examining the influence of Multisensory integration three sensory-coupling channels on the stability of group coordination. Using 3D motion capture, Mutual entrainment we recorded a group of 13 expert folk dancers performing to the beat of music (auditory cou- Haptic coupling pling) while holding hands in a circle (haptic coupling) and seeing their fellow dancers (visual coupling). Analyses of group synchrony using cluster phase analysis demonstrated that selective elimination of any one of the three types of sensory coupling significantly reduced group syn- chrony, where haptic coupling had the strongest effect on movements in the horizontal plane, but also impacted the vertical axis. This study provides some of the first evidence of how sensory couplings support multi-person coordination in a large group, and in particular the effect of body contact on this coordination.
