Water Balance Study of Semi-Arid Region – a Case Study M.A
ISSN: 2277-9655 [Alam* et al., 5(12): December, 2016] Impact Factor: 4.116 IC™ Value: 3.00 CODEN: IJESS7 IJESRT INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING SCIENCES & RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY WATER BALANCE STUDY OF SEMI-ARID REGION – A CASE STUDY M.A. Alam*, Rajat Kango, Janmeet Singh * Associate Professor, Civil Engineering Department, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh - 160012, India ME Student, Civil Engineering Department, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh -160012, India Ph.D Student, Civil Engineering Department, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh -160012, India DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.225402 ABSTRACT Rational estimation of groundwater potential of any region is one of the major influential factors towards increasing the cultivable land area in that region. Groundwater is pumped out regularly to supplement the available surface water resources in fulfilling the water demands of the region. Increase in population and more demand of water for irrigation purposes and domestic uses will cause the digging up of greater number of tube wells to meet the increasing water demand, thus, the water table will fall at a faster rate resulting in increased cost of pumping. The concept of Water Balance helps in studying the behaviour and hydrological characteristics of a catchment area. Thus, Precipitation and Evapotranspiration are major sources of input and output of water respectively. The development, planning and operation of water resources project are dependent upon the availability of water in the required quantity. The present study is based upon the available data on Agra district of Uttar Pradesh to manage the sustainable development of the available water resources to meet the demand. Thus, in order to estimate the safe draft of groundwater, location of new wells and to suggest other economical sources of water this study was carried out. -
Forms of Potassium in Wheat Growing Soils of Agra District, Uttar Pradesh
Annals of Plant and Soil Research 19(1): 85 – 88 (2017) Forms of potassium in wheat growing soils of Agra district, Uttar Pradesh SANDEEP SINGH Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Raja Balwant Singh College, Bichpuri, Agra (UP) – 283 105 Received; September, 2016,; Revised accepted,:December, 2016 ABSTRACT The status of different forms of potassium was studied during rabi season of 2015 in wheat growing soils of Agra district of Uttar Pradesh and their relationship with soil properties was worked out. The results revealed that the soils were alkaline in reaction (pH 7.3-9.2), low to medium in organic carbon (2.5-5.6 g ha -1). The -1 -1 ranges of EC, CaCO 3, CEC and clay content of these soils were 0.16 to 0.92 dSm , traces to 50 g kg , 7.0 to 14.0 cmol kg-1 soil and 10-28% with mean values of 0.40 dSm -1, 20 g kg -1, 9.5 cmol kg -1 and 19.5 percent, respectively. Total K ranged from 0.95 to 2.25% with a mean value of 1.57% indicating low to moderate reserve for K in these soils. Lattice K accounts 67% of total K. Water soluble K ranged from 7.0 to 36.0 mg kg-1 which contributes, on an average 0.11% of total K. Exchangeable K ranged from 45 to 250 with a mean value of 95 mg kg -1 which accounted 0.60% of total K. Fixed K varied from 750 to 2000 mg kg -1 with a mean value of 1390 mg kg -1, accounting to 8.8% of total K HCl soluble K ranged from 2375 to 5720 mg kg -1 with a mean value of 4769 mg kg -1. -

Historical Legacies at the Grassroots: Local Public Goods in Agra District, 1905-2011
Historical Legacies at the Grassroots: Local Public Goods in Agra District, 1905-2011 Alexander Lee* September 20, 2020 Abstract Accounts of the historical origins of spatial inequality often use aggregated spatial units, and do not measure outcomes between the time of treatment and the present day. This paper analyses a new panel dataset of local public goods provision in a single North Indian district with observations at the village decade level going back to 1905, and detailed information on colonial land tenure institutions, landholding patterns and demographics. A historical factor often thought to influence rural politics in India, the presence of large or absentee colonial landowners, explains little variation in local public goods conditional on population and spatial location, while villages inhabited by upper caste groups had an advantage only during the mid-20th century. This non-effect is in part a result of changing effects over time. In particular, while villages have always been more likely to gain public goods while a member of the village’s largest caste group was in power at the state level, changes in the composition of Northern India’s political class have meant that this favoritism has benefited different groups in different periods. The results illustrate the changing and contingent nature of effects of institutional differences Keywords: Historical Legacies, State Capacity, Public Goods PRELIMINARY WORK: DO NOT CITE WITHOUT PERMISSION *Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Rochester, Harkness Hall, Rochester, NY 14627. Email: alexan- [email protected]. 1 Introduction In the past two decades, there has been an explosion of literature on the long term effects on historical institutions on economic development and public goods provision (Acemoglu, Johnson and Robinson, 2002; Dell, 2010; Lee and Schultz, 2012; Iyer, 2010; Sellars and Alix-Garcia, 2018; Dasgupta, 2018; Nunn and Wantchekon, 2011; Besley and Reynal-Querol, 2014). -
