Lodivico, James Alexson E. ARC51 SYNOPSIS of the AMAZING Lodivico, James Alexson E. ARC51 SYNOPSIS OF THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 PLOT Scientist Richard Parker records a video message to explain his disappearance. Later, he and his wife, Mary, are aboard a private jet hijacked by a man sent to assassinate Richard. With the pilot dead, the plane crashes. In the present, Richard and Mary's son, Peter, fights crime as Spider-Man. He apprehends Aleksei Sytsevich, who attempted to steal a truck containing plutonium vials, and rescues OsCorp Industries employee Max Dillon. While speaking by phone with Gwen Stacy, Peter sees a vision of her deceased father, police captain George Stacy, reminding him to leave Gwen out of his affairs as Spider-Man. After their high school graduation, Peter meets with Gwen at a restaurant outside, insisting he needs to keep his vow to her father by staying away from her; upset, Gwen ends their relationship. Peter's childhood friend, Harry Osborn, returns to Manhattan to see his terminally ill father, Norman, CEO of OsCorp. Norman explains his illness is hereditary and Harry is at the age where it first develops. He gives Harry a small device he claims contains his life's work. The next day, Norman dies and Harry is appointed the new OsCorp CEO. He accuses the OsCorp board of trying to wrest control from the Osborns, as they have been privy to Norman's secret biogenetic projects for foreign military powers. Thinking they have become "best friends", Max idolizes Spider-Man. While tending to maintenance in an OsCorp laboratory, he gets electrocuted and falls into a tank of genetically modified electric eels. They mutate him into a living electric generator. Meanwhile, Peter attempts to maintain a friendship with Gwen, but, as she reveals that an opportunity for a scholarship at Oxford University means that she may move to Britain, Max wanders into Times Square and accidentally causes a blackout. Spider- Man attempts to calm him down, but the police fire at Max, and Spider-Man's resulting rescue of the endangered citizens draws media attention away from Max, making him lose his temper and attack. Spider-Man eventually stops him, and Max is taken to Ravencroft Institute. Harry's illness begins to show, and he deduces Spider-Man's blood will save him, later asking Peter to find Spider-Man. Peter attempts to dissuade him, unsure of what effects the transfusion would have, and, although he does come to Harry as Spider-Man, he still refuses; Harry begins to hate Spider-Man. The OsCorp board members frame Harry for covering up Max's accident, and remove him as CEO. Harry's assistant informs him of equipment that could help him; he works with Max to get him back inside the OsCorp building and, there, finds a suit of armor made by Norman, and venom from genetically altered spiders. The venom accelerates his illness and transforms him into a goblin-like creature, but its built-in emergency protocol restores his health. Peter uses information left by his father to find a video message in a hidden lab; Richard explains that he had to leave because he refused to cooperate with Norman's biogenetic weaponization plans. Peter gets a voicemail from Gwen, telling him she got the scholarship at Oxford and is leaving for Britain earlier than expected. Before she leaves, he catches her and professes he loves her. When Max causes another blackout, Peter and Gwen go to confront him. They restore power and overload Max's body, killing him. Harry arrives equipped with Norman's armor and weaponry; he deduces Spider-Man's true identity and kidnaps Gwen. He fights Spider-Man at the top of a clock tower. Spider-Man subdues Harry, but despite his attempts to save Gwen, she falls to her death. A distraught Peter gives up being Spider-Man and he spends several days throughout the year at Gwen's grave. Over the next five months, Harry has healed from his transformation at Ravencroft. His associate Gustav Fiers visits him and breaks Sytsevich out of prison. Equipped with a mechanical suit of armor, Sytsevich calls himself the "Rhino" and rampages through the streets. Peter, inspired by Gwen's graduation speech, returns to battle him as Spider- Man. THE STRUGGLES OF TWO CHARACTERS PETER PARKER Peter Parker has a lot of responsibilities not only to his family and to his girlfriend, Gwen. But also to the population of New York City whom he protects as Spider-Man. With these responsibilities on his hands, it is not easy to balance his time it is very evident on the first appearance of Spider-Man in the film where he first save the plutonium from the criminals and Max Dillon then Gwen calls him telling him that he is late on their graduation. For Peter, it is time management at its worst because he cannot tell when he will be needed to fight crimes and also he cannot tell when he will be needed by his family and friends. Taking into account as well, he just graduated from high school meaning that Peter is at his youth making these responsibilities more difficult for him because he cannot perform what other people at his age does. Also Peter had lost his biological parents when he was a child. He had no clue on whether where they are or if they are still even alive. So peter, on one hand tries to find his authentic self. Of course he wants to find out why he is like that, why he is Spider- Man? There are a lot of questions that lingers on him specially on the film where he is curious on what is in the brief case of his father, but due to bitterness he keeps on ignoring that case but eventually when he cannot anymore stand the curiosity he open it up only to find out that there are documents, pictures and other paraphernalia of his Father’s experiments that will eventually lead him to the old Roosevelt Station where his father kept a video explaining his disappearance and the shocking part is, where Peter knew that the experiment of his father is related to him becoming Spider-Man. Richard Parker Explains that he injected the chemical on him making all his bloodline carriers of that experiment which explains of being Spider-Man of Peter Parker. Sometimes Peter show absurdity meaning he acts extremely foolish or unreasonable to people and things in one scene where Peter saw an apparition of Gwen’s father when catching the criminals who stole the plutonium, Peter remembered his promised to him that he will stay away from Gwen because he is Spider-Man. That is why he meets up with Gwen after the graduation to explain this but for Gwen it was unreasonable because Peter told him that he loves her, but he is afraid of what bad might happen to Gwen when he is already Spider-Man. But as we all know their love story continues throughout the film. Adding to this, there is a scene on the film the Peter always looks after Gwen during their temporary break-up because Peter is always feeling the fear that something might bad happen to Gwen, in short, Peter is always dreadful about Gwen. Maybe that is also the reason why they did not really separated when Gwen broke-up with Peter because Peter will always shows up where Gwen is. Also when Peter knew that Gwen has an opportunity to enter Oxford University, of course Peter was happy but also there is a feeling of dread because Gwen would be away for quite some time and Peter is not there to look after her. In line with this, we see Peter’s commitment to Gwen but also he must commit to the subjectivity that he possesses which is Spider-Man. On the climax part where Spider- Man is already dealing with the Green Goblin, he also faces another problem which is Gwen that is also on the fight scene. We could see Spider-Man trying his best to beat the Green Goblin so that he could save Gwen. But unfortunately, as he tries to save Gwen as she falls from the top of the clock tower, he was able to catch Gwen before she could able hit the ground. But to his surprise, Gwen still died. As Gwen was laid to rest, we could see that Peter almost stayed at her grave everyday and every seasons of the year because of his commitment and love for her. That is why for that particular time, when he is grieving, Spider-Man is missing because he could not be Spider-Man. Because his commitment and focus is not on Spider-Man but merely on Gwen alone. But Gwen is also the reason why Spider-Man came back. It is the scene where Peter, watched the Commencement Speech of Gwen talking about hope. So that is the turning point where Peter suddenly realized that he has more to do as Spider-Man. That why, on the last scene we could see that he came back and fight crime again. HARRY OSBORN Harry arrives home to see his ailing father, Norman Osborn, they have a fractured relationship. It is as bitter as Norman's illness. He implies that Harry will suffer the same fate. He asks to see Harry's hand and notices that it is shaking a symptom of the illness. He hands Harry a drive with his research. Minutes later, his father died. with his father not around he takes full responsibility of the his father’s company, OSCORP.

FREE GOBLIN NATION PDF Jean Rabe | 320 pages | 10 Oct 2009 | Wizards of the Coast | 9780786951536 | English | United States Goblin Nation (Earth) | Marvel Database | Fandom Spider-Man's activities as a solo New York City-based crime fighter, member of the Avengers, and former member of the Future Foundation has made him one of the most connected heroes in the Goblin Nation Universeand that didn't change when the consciousness of his old foe Doctor Octopus AKA Otto Octavius took command of his body. What did change was the established dynamics between Spidey and many of his fellow heroes. The Superior Spider-Man's brand of egotistical and often violent heroics has rubbed many heroes the wrong way, and the former Doc Goblin Nation isn't shy about voicing his opinions about the so-called "heroes" that cross his path. These new, sometimes contentious, and often explosive dynamics are chronicled every month in the Goblin Nation "Superior Spider-Man Team- Up. How does that feel? And I imagine even with your busy schedule working on television shows like "Mad" and "Robot Chicken" the opportunity to tell stories that team Spider-Man with various characters in the Marvel Universe was to good to pass up. Kevin Shinick: That's exactly right. In fact, I'm thrilled, because the one person I enjoy teaming Spider-Man up with the most is me! So when an opportunity like this comes along I instinctively say yes. It's like a spider-sense that kicks in on its own. Only it comes out of my mouth.

ABSTRACT SHAEFFER, MATHEW TODD. With Great Power and Great Responsibility: The Representation of America's Social Anxieties and Historical Events in The Amazing Spider- Man, 1962-1979. (Under the direction of committee Dr. David Zonderman). This thesis examines The Amazing Spider-Man comic series as a means to explore historical events and social anxieties during the 1960s and 1970s. Recently, superheroes have reclaimed a prominent place in American culture as superhero films are surging in popularity. Using The Amazing Spider-Man, I hope to highlight how superhero comic books are a valuable source for American cultural history and warrant serious scholarly research. To conduct my research, I looked at the scholarship on superhero comics, which has expanded greatly over the last few years, and conducted a close examination of Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962), which first introduces Spider-Man, and nearly 200 issues of The Amazing Spider-Man published from 1963 until 1979. I found that The Amazing Spider-Man comic series offers insight into American society and American values during the time period. I examine how The Amazing Spider-Man advocates the responsible use of science during the new Nuclear Age while also reflecting the dangers of new and unconstrained science. I study how the main character, Peter Parker, deals with social acceptance, general social anxieties, and finding his place in the world. I look at how the hero struggles with Cold War tensions, losing loved ones, seeing friends shipped off to war, social unrest, civil rights issues, student protests, political corruption, and much more. Finally, I look at how the perception of gender changes during the 1960s and 1970s by examining the evolution of both male and female gender values portrayed in the comic and how those values evolve over time.

SUPERHEROES & STEREOTYPES: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF RACE, GENDER, AND SOCIAL ISSUES WITHIN COMIC BOOK MATERIAL Gabriel Arnoldo Cruz A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY December 2018 Committee: Alberto González, Advisor Eric Worch Graduate Faculty Representative Joshua Atkinson Frederick Busselle Christina Knopf © 2018 Gabriel Arnoldo Cruz All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Alberto González, Advisor The popularity of modern comic books has fluctuated since their creation and mass production in the early 20th century, experiencing periods of growth as well as decline. While commercial success is not always consistent from one decade to the next it is clear that the medium has been and will continue to be a cultural staple in the society of the United States. I have selected this type of popular culture for analysis precisely because of the longevity of the medium and the recent commercial success of film and television adaptations of comic book material. In this project I apply a Critical lens to selected comic book materials and apply Critical theories related to race, class, and gender in order to understand how the materials function as vehicles for ideological messages. For the project I selected five Marvel comic book characters and examined materials featuring those characters in the form of comic books, film, and television adaptations. The selected characters are Steve Rogers/Captain America, Luke Cage, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Jean Grey, and Raven Darkholme/Mystique. Methodologically I interrogated the selected texts through the application of visual and narrative rhetorical criticism.

Thus, like Yu, Peter is indirectly responsible for his own powers when the spider then bites him. Gwen was there prior to his attendance, but she was hiding in the vents. It can be argued that Doctor Octopus is the quintessential Spider-man villain and this tale helps propel that argument as Doc Ock pushes Spidey to his absolute limits. That night, Arachne gives him a costume, red to symbolize every innocent whose blood is shed and blue to symbolize sorrow. Peter crawls up Gwen's building at night and finds her room outside the scaffolding. Shortly after the rat is injected with the serum, the rat regrows another limb, completing its leg set. Wayne Enterprises has a relationship with Arkham Assistance, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, that provides co-pay assistance exclusively to Medicare patients with Bat Flu. Company policy does not allow Medicare patients with Bat Flu to participate in the Company’s free drug program for those in financial need, and instead requires employees to refer those patients to Arkham Assistance for financial help. Most of the charitable contributions from the Company to Arkham Assistance are paid in cash. Wayne Enterprises also has a concierge service agreement with specialty pharmacies in which nurse practitioners visit patients in their home and administer the Bat Flu drug. The Company’s agreements with specialty pharmacies require that the nurse practitioners visit the patient at least once a week. Company policy states that any home visits that include up-titration of Bat Flu drugs will result in a bonus payment to the specialty pharmacy. The same incentive is offered to Wayne Enterprises employees in the Company’s reimbursement HUB: those employees get an additional bonus for each reimbursement obtained. Do these practices present any compliance-related issues for the Company? If so, what risk areas are implicated? 2 Case Study #1 QUESTION 2 Harvey Dent, an employee in the Medical Affairs department at Wayne Enterprises, observes the Company’s relationships with Arkham Assistance and the specialty pharmacies.
