Centre to infuse Rs. 12,000 crore in state general insurance firms

Following the recapitalization of public

sector banks (PSBs), now public sector

insurance companies -- National Insurance,

Oriental Insurance and United India

Insurance -- are going to be infused with

funds worth Rs. 12,000 crore to boost their

capital base and meet regulatory norms. The

Budget had provisioned Rs. 70,000 crore for PSB recapitalisation and last week a Rs. 55,250-

crore infusion was announced in several PSBs for regulatory and growth requirements.

India ranked fourth in global malaria cases in 2017: Lancet report

India ranked fourth in the global incidence of the

deadly mosquito-borne disease malaria in 2017,

with four percent of the cases worldwide

reported in the country, according to a report

published in The Lancet journal. Of the 219

million cases of malaria reported globally in

2017, nearly 10 million were from India, making

it the fourth most affected by the disease -- only behind the African countries Nigeria,

Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mozambique according to the report.

ADB to provide $200 million for all-weather rural road project in Maharashtra

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a

USD 200 million loan for improving road

infrastructure in 34 districts of Maharashtra to

better connect rural areas with markets and

services. Roads in rural areas would be upgraded

to all-weather standards which will boost links

between local residents and economic centres

across the state.

Kerala to set up country's first global trade centre for women

Kerala will set up the country's first International

Women's Trade Centre (iWTC), in consonance

with the United Nations Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs), in Kozhikode. A key

project of the state's Gender Park under the

Department of Social Justice, it is envisaged as a

safe space away from home for women to harness their entrepreneurial capabilities, set up or

expand their businesses and get their products marketed globally. The first phase of iWTC,

being executed under the Gender Park's "Vision 2020", is scheduled to be completed by 2021.

Indian Railways Sets Up Country’s First ‘Fun Zone’ for Kids at Railway station

The has set up a ‘Fun Zone’ at the

Visakhapatnam Railway Station to enable the

Passengers, especially children, to spend their

time while waiting for trains. The Fun Zone is

India’s first such initiative. It has been made by

the South Coast Railway Zone at Platform

number one of the Visakhapatnam Railway station in . Fun zone will have all

the high-tech gaming activities similar to that found in gaming parlours. Besides children, it will

also have some creative activities for adults too.

India’s First Helicopter Summit held in Dehradun

The country’s first-ever Helicopter Summit was

held at Dehradun in Uttarakhand on September

7 by the Ministry of Civilian Aviation. The

Summit was organised here jointly by the Civil

Aviation Ministry, the state government and the

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce

Lasith Malinga Becomes First Bowler To Take 100 T20I Wickets

Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga wreaked havoc after

becoming the first bowler in Twenty20 internationals

to claim 100 wickets as he struck four times with four

balls in the third match against New Zealand.

Malinga, who surpassed Pakistan spinner Shahid

Afridi's tally of 97 scalps to become the leading T20

wicket-taker, bowled Colin Munro for 12 to claim a

century of wickets in his 76th match. The 36-year-old speedster went on to complete a hat-trick

and took four wickets in four balls.

India Red beat India Green to clinch Duleep Trophy title

India Red beat India Green by an innings and 38 runs

to clinch the Duleep Trophy title on the fourth day at

Bengaluru. India Red had scored 388 in their first

innings. On the other hand, India Green compiled

231 runs in their first innings and 119 in their second

innings. India Red's title triumph was the only

outright result in the four matches played in the season-opening tournament. Abhimanyu

Easwaran, who made a brilliant 153 for India Red, was named player of the match.

Actor, Kathak Dancer Veeru Krishnan Passes Away

Actor and Kathak dancer Veeru Krishnan passed

away on Saturday in Mumbai. He was best

known for his work in films like Raja Hindustani,

Dulhe Raja, Akele Hum Akele Tum among

others. Besides being an actor, he was also a

famous kathak dancer. Many Bollywood

celebrities were trained in Kathak by him.

Noted Freedom Fighter Heeralal Sharma Passes Away at 95

Veteran freedom fighter Heeralal Sharma, who

played a significant role in India’s

independence has passed away. He was 95.

Sharma, from Bikaner, took active part in Quit

India Movement and was jailed for two years.
