Simmons, tu. and f. mon and fri -wrTH-ARDEN, a parish and small village, 3:! miles S.E. by E. from Alcester, contains 1,948 acres of land, and, in 1841, 401 inhabitants; 1801,216; 1821, 336; 1831, 374; rateable value, £2,211. 16s. 3d. This is recorded to ha\'e been an early gift to the abbey of Evesham, and was granted by the Conqueror to some of his followers. In the reign of Henry Ill., it was possessed by the Knights Templars, and, at the dissolution, was purchased by Wm. Sheldon and J(Jhn Draper, since which time it has had various owners. The principall~4 owners are John Fullerton, Esq., F. F. Bullock, Esq., W. & J. Lee, Esqs.; Mrs. Jo1ihson; and Mrs. H. Holder; the former is lord of the manor. The Church, dedicated to St Andrew, is an ancient structure, con· sisting of nave, chancel, and side aisles. The living, a perpetual cnracy, rated at £91., augmented with £200. private benefactions, and £800. Queen Anne's bounty; F. F. Bullock, Esq., patron; and Rev. Wm. Blood, M. A., incumbent.
