THE NEWSLETTER OF HAMPTON LUCY, AND LOXLEY PARISHES

Issue No: 214 November 2019

Loxley C of E Primary School What a busy start to the school year it has been at Loxley C of E Community Primary School! We began with the launch of our new school vision rooted in the parable of Christ the Sower. Children and staff collaborated on an exciting project with artist David Bowers to design and make a whole-school mosaic to embody our vision for all to see! The mosaic project was generously funded by Loxley PCC and will shortly be installed outside our school. Horse Chestnut and Sycamore classes have been busily learning about how World War 2 affected our local area through their topic, Windows into World War 2. Their learning was enriched by a visit to Coventry Transport Museum for a special Blitz Workshop (and some very special filming for a BBC2 documentary), followed by a trip to Coventry St Michael’s Cathedral to explore its architecture. Our new class of little Acorns have settled into school very well and their learning this term is based around the topic of Land of Hope and Glory. Our youngest pupils have already enjoyed a very regal Kings and Queens Dressing Up Day and an action-packed day-trip out to Warwick Castle. Our Open Morning for Reception, 2020, took place on Wednesday, 16 October, when we welcomed parents of prospective pupils and were pleased to be able to show them what a happy village school has to offer! Dear Friends,

My six-month placement with you all will have ended at the end of October and, by the time you read this, the Diocese will have moved me to duties - the location and nature of which are currently unknown to me. I've had a wonderful time ministering amongst you. Thank you for the warmth of your welcome and the support you've given to me. It has made my time with you a real joy. The process of recruiting your next Vicar is underway. I will be holding you in my prayers. May our Lord bless and guide all of us as we look to discern our futures.

Wishing you Christ's peace, Andy (Rev’d Dr Andy Larkin)

Introducing our Parish Administrators As my placement concludes, I'm delighted to be able to introduce you to our recently-appointed Administrators for the six parishes.

Victoria Stokes is now our Benefice Administrator. Victoria has worked as a Montessori Teacher and Nursery Manager and lived in Barford for four years. She and her husband Simon have 3 young children. Two now attend Barford Primary School and the third will start pre-school next year. Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Victoria spent 10 years in Manchester before returning to settle down in the area where she grew up and to raise a family. Victoria currently helps run the playgroup in the village hall on Thursday mornings and has just become co-Chair of Friends Association of Barford School. Victoria's first task has been to reintroduce our Sunday Sheet.

Charlotte Woodcock has taken on the role of Weddings Administrator and writes; ‘My heart is in Barford, with family and friends close by. In 2017 I married my husband David at St Peter's. I love the daily laughs and challenges of bringing up my two children Andrew and Georgie, with the village and its surrounding areas being a great place for a family to flourish. I am a keen amateur potter with a garden studio underway. With the recent renovation of our family home almost complete, I find myself looking for a new project and, with that in mind, I am looking forward to dedicating time to the parishes, and to those couples looking to marry here. I can't wait to get stuck in!’ Rev’d AL News from the Parishes A complete list of church services, including those at Barford, Wasperton and Sherbourne, is displayed on the notice board in your church. Commemoration of the Departed Parishioners of Hampton Lucy, Charlecote and Loxley are invited to a Service of Commemoration of the Departed on Sunday, 3 November, at 6.00pm in St Peter ad Vincula Church, Hampton Lucy. Traditionally at the beginning of November the Church has held special services to remember and give thanks for those whom we have known and loved but who have now departed this life. The service is based on the Christian belief that death is not the end but the transition to a new and eternal life. If you would like anyone remembered by name at the service, please complete one of the forms at the back of the church and place it in the box provided, or you can email [email protected] or call on 01789 842251. Even if you are unable to attend the service, your loved one will be remembered in our prayers. I’m not yet able to give full details of our itinerary for each evening but more information will be available in next month’s Grapevine with details on our Facebook page and on our website: www.wellesbourne-lions.org.uk AS Hampton Lucy and Charlecote WI Phaedra Elson was our speaker at the October meeting. An artist and illustrator, she started her own business in 2016 - illustrating children’s books and creating animal paintings and pet portraits. Everyone enjoyed her talk and had a go at completing the colouring exercises over a cup of coffee. She then judged the Holiday Souvenir competition which was won by Pauline Pratt. Several members attended the Group Meeting at Ashorne in September where the speaker, veterinarian Laura Holmes, gave an interesting talk on equine veterinary practice. The draw for the Centenary Quilt took place with the lucky winner from Bishops Itchington WI. On Sunday, 15 September, some of our members visited the Bygones Museum at Marton and enjoyed the many interesting exhibits and craft demonstrations. Well worth a visit! Our next meeting will be the AGM in Hampton Lucy Village Hall on 6 November when the competition will be The Largest Number of ‘W’ Objects in a Jam Jar.’ PT News from New for November: Join us this November for a host of activities. The team will be preparing for our Christmas event from 4 to 29 November, so the house will be briefly closed during these dates. But autumn is really all about the colours in the parkland anyway, so we are putting on extra Gatehouse Roof Tours over the November weekends so that you can make the most of the breathtaking views across the parkland. If you’d rather stay at ground level, we’re also introducing new garden tours on Sundays 10, 17 and 24 November too. Find out how these gardens played such an important part in Mary Elizabeth’s life in Victorian times. The popular quirky Folklore Trail will be back in the gardens after Halloween if you’ve not had a chance to see the sculptures from local artists yet. Out in the parkland, of course, it’s the perfect time for a walk; to scrunch through those fallen leaves and see if you can spot the bucks clashing antlers as the deer rut gets under way. Getting ready for Christmas: It's the Roaring Twenties and there's been an audacious theft at Charlecote Park! Inspector Rye needs your help to find the villain and recover Lady Lucy's precious Star of Wonder jewel. The family Christmas party was in full flow at the time of the incident so you'll have to use your skills to solve the clues that have been left behind. Book your detective's pass now, to help in the hunt. Don’t forget that you’ll need to book through the website - https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/charlecote-park (or phone 0344 249 1895) to book Breakfast with Father Christmas and for tickets to visit the house. We can’t take bookings in the Charlecote office, and normal admission applies if you’re not an NT member. MG St Leonard’s Day Breakfast, Charlecote St Leonard’s Day breakfast will held be on Sunday, 3 November at 10.30am in Charlecote Village Hall (after the Morning Worship service) celebrating the saint to whom our church is dedicated. Do join us if you can. If you wish to attend please let either Sue Lampitt (01926 624545) or Vanessa Lewis (01789 842552) know. Tickets are £5, either in advance or on the door. VL Hampton Lucy - Macmillan Coffee Morning The Macmillan Coffee Morning last month in the Boars Head, Hampton Lucy, raised over £200. There were stalls with scents, candles, second-hand books, a raffle and cakes. A big thank you is due to Angie and Phil for hosting it, and to everyone who supported it in any way. JD

Hampton Lucy - VE Day - 2020

On 8, 9 and 10 May, 2020, there will be a national celebration for the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe. There are already some ideas of how to celebrate this in Hampton Lucy but the Parish Council would like to know who would like to volunteer to help in any way. Please contact John Dunkerton on [email protected] or 01789 842573. You might want to look at https://www.veday75.org to get some ideas. It may have been seventy five years ago, long before many of us were born, but it was still a momentous event and worth acknowledging the sacrifice that many people made on our behalf. JD Hampton Lucy Village Hall Hampton Lucy Village Hall Management Committee is looking for people to join our small team to help with our fundraising events and get involved with the running of the village hall. Please contact Paul Barker, Chairman of the Village Hall Committee, on [email protected] HL
