*OPENING PRAYER Holy God, pour out your Holy Spirt upon those who will be baptized and confirmed today in the faith. Grant all of us wisdom and courage and enable us to grow in our knowledge of your Word and in our love for Christ. As you have been with us every step of our journey, remind us that we are wholly yours. We remember your promises to us and commit ourselves to following where you lead, offering ourselves in service to the world in partnership with the church; in Jesus name. Amen.

WELCOME

SCRIPTURE Psalm 103 Let my whole being bless the Lord! Let everything inside me bless his holy name! Let my whole being bless the Lord and never forget all his good deeds: how God forgives all your sins, heals all your sickness, saves your life from the pit, crowns you with faithful love and compassion, and satisfies you with plenty of good things so that your youth is made fresh like an eagle’s.

The Lord works righteousness; does justice for all who are oppressed. God made his ways known to Moses; made his deeds known to the Israelites. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, very patient, and full of faithful love. God won’t always play the judge; he won’t be angry forever. He doesn’t deal with us according to our sin or repay us according to our wrongdoing, because as high as heaven is above the earth, that’s how large God’s faithful love is for those who honor him. As far as east is from west— that’s how far God has removed our sin from us. Like a parent feels compassion for their children— that’s how the Lord feels compassion for those who honor him. Because God knows how we’re made, God remembers we’re just dust.

The days of a human life are like grass: they bloom like a wildflower; but when the wind blows through it, it’s gone; even the ground where it stood doesn’t remember it. But the Lord’s faithful love is from forever ago to forever from now for those who honor him. And God’s righteousness reaches to the grandchildren of those who keep his covenant and remember to keep his commands. The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

You divine messengers, bless the Lord! You who are mighty in power and keep his word, who obey everything he says, bless him! All you heavenly forces, bless the Lord! All you who serve him and do his will, bless him! All God’s creatures, bless the Lord! Everywhere, throughout his kingdom, let my whole being bless the Lord!

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. REFLECTION Rev. Lance Richards

CONFIRMATION CREED I believe that God made the world and created everyone special. God is good and cares for all God created. God is everywhere at once and has power over all things.

I believe that Jesus is God’s only son. Jesus came to walk among us and to be a role model. Jesus’ love changes our hearts and the way we should treat each other.

I believe that the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts and minds. The Holy Spirit lives among us and gives us the peace of God. We all experience the Holy Spirit in different ways.

As Christians, we need to love our neighbors as ourselves. This is our greatest mission. We should always look for ways to help others and to be kind. May we always be compassionate like Jesus was.

INTRODUCTION TO THE SERVICE

Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy Church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.

PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATES

RENUNCIATION OF SIN AND PROFESSION OF FAITH

On behalf of the whole church, I ask you:

Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin? I do.

Do you accept the freedom and the power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? I do.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the Church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? I do.

According to the grace given to you, will you remain faithful members of Christ’s holy Church and serve as Christ’s representatives in the world? I will.

Do you, as Christ’s body, the Church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ? We do.

Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include these persons in your care? With God’s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround these persons with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their trust of God, and be found faithful in their service to others. We will pray for them, that they may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life.

Let us join together in professing the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit the holy , the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.

Eternal Father: When nothing existed but chaos, ...... Their children you brought through the Jordan to the land which you promised.

In the fullness of time you sent Jesus, ...... and to make disciples of all nations.

Pour out your Holy Spirit, ...... that, dying and being raised with Christ, they may share in his final victory. BAPTISM
