BACKGROUND Kentucky's primary is May 25; 37 delegates will represent the state at the National Convention. Kentucky is a tough state but the organization is now starting to come around and things are looking better. Cong. Carter publicly endorsed the President at a press conference on April 5; has his entire organization in the 5th District working for the President. This is the most Republican District in the state. What can we do to improve our efforts? Please convey my thanks to the people in your District who have worked so hard in building up ' an efficient and effective organization. April 23, 1976 , KENTUCKY PFC got a late start in Kentucky. There is now an excellent team headed up by Hal Rogers and Huda Jones. National Committeeman Ed Middleton has been out in front for the President from the beginning and has been very effective in combating the Reagan forces in the State Executive Committee meetings. Congressman Tim Lee Carter is publicly supporting the President and made a public announcement on April 5th. PFC is running the campaigns in Tennessee and Kentucky in tandem because they are on the same day and the media from Tennessee will reach all of southern Kentucky. There are some reports that former Governor Nunn feels he may have jumped onto the Reagan bandwagon too soon. The Attorney General has a great deal of influence himself and his endorsement will greatly help the President's campaign. It is important that the President call Mr. List today before he has time to reconsider. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION 1. I understand that you feel you are ready to support and publicly endorse my candidacy. 2. Your endorsement will help us not only in the state of Nevada but elsewhere in the nation. 3. We feel that with your help we can win Nevada. The latest telephone polls have shown I have a substantial lead over my opponent. 4. Thank you for your help. I will need your advice and counsel in the weeks ahead. Th1s purpose is not I being met by taxing transfers between husbands I and wives. ' Five years ago, Mrs. Royal learned that if something were to happen to her husband she would probably have to mortgage her farm to pay the estate tax (see attached). She spearheaded a crusade to arouse public 11 sentiment to get rid of the "widows tax • The Commission on International Women's Year recommended corrective action. On March 22, 1976, Secretary Simon presented your estate tax recommendat]ons to the Congress which would eliminate the transfer ,ift·· tax between spouses altogether. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION: 1. BACKGROUND: Fulkerson is presently leaning Ford but is hesitating to commit because of a threat by the Reagan people to oppose Fulkerson's re-election bid at the Missouri State Convention on June 12. He has no philosophical ties to Reagan and should be supporting the President. He is a cattleman and cattle auctioneer. TALKING POINTS: 1. Request support at District Convention and State Convention. 2. Ask him to make as many calls as possible to produce votes at the convention. 3. Mention that he has support of Governor Bond, National Committee woman Ginn and Fulkerson should join the team. Morton PURPOSE :To thank and motivate volunteers involved in voter I,D. and to get the vote out for Tuesday's primary. BACKGROUND :State: Bob Pasc~l, County Executive of Anne Arundel County is State PFC Chairman. Senator.~eaJl, Congressman Gude, former Congressman Ho~an and National Committeewoman Louise Gore have en orsed the President. Delegates are elected, winner take all by each of the eight Congressional districts (3 delegates each) and by state wide results (19) for a total of 43. cJlaltimore County): The telephone services both Baltimore City and County. PFC Coordinator is Arch Jones, PFC County Coordinator's are io» Hitchcock and ~iss Ruth Pierce. The phon goal for the center is 9000 completed calls. POINTS OF DISCUSSION The contact person will answer the phone, speak briefly with the President and turn on the speaker phone. The President will then be speaking to a gathering of volunteers and possibly media coverage. It is suggested that he discuss: 1) His appreciation to the volunteers for all they have done and will do on election day.
