What is an ePub? ePub is short for electronic publication. It is a standardized way of publishing e- so the same file can be opened on any computer or device, including Macintosh or Windows computers, and tablets including .

By creating an ePub file, Dr. Schneller is able to ensure that the one file he creates will be viewable on just about any electronic device you feel comfortable using.

How do I view an ePub e-?

On a Macintosh computer with MacOS 10.9 or newer? MacOS 10.9 or newer: The iBooks application comes on a computer with MacOS version 10.9 or newer. To access the ePub, do the following:

1. Download the ePub. Open your (Safari) and go to http://bit.ly/2080epub to download the ePub file. The filename that downloads will be chem2080., and the file will likely be in the “Downloads” folder (or it may open automatically). 2. Open the ePub file. Double-click on the downloaded chem2080.epub file. It will open in iBooks, and the book will automatically be added to your iBooks library. Next time, just open the iBooks app to access the ePub and continue where you left off. iBooks allows users to highlight relevant parts of the ePub, double-click on a word to view its dictionary definition, create bookmarks, take notes that can be referenced later, interact through social sites, or speak the text.

On a computer that is not mine? You may have a need to open the ePub on a computer that is not yours. Figures and Videos Throughout the ePub, figures and videos are used to welcome the reader, detail definitions, enhance a concept, or delve deeper into an explanation.

Viewing Figures in More Detail Increasing the text size also increases the size of the figure to view more detail. Viewing the ePub in a full-screen view will maximize the figure’s size. On iOS devices, the iBooks app allows the user to double-tap the figure and pinch-to- zoom to view it in more detail. On an Android device, long-press the figure and pinch-to-zoom to view it in more detail.

Viewing Videos (give them time to load) Videos are played using YouTube links. To view the video, click or tap on the link that appears in the text. The link will open in YouTube and allow you to view the video as you would any other video on the Internet. Once the video is completed, you must return to the ePub to continue reading.
