Pink Martini LES VISITEURS DU SOIR présente PINK MARTINI NOUVEAU SPECTACLE “GET HAPPY” TOURNÉE ÉTÉ 2014 Je suis très content de notre nouvel album "Get Happy"... un album qui réunit nos deux chanteuses principales China Forbes et Storm Large mais aussi Philippe Katerine, Rufus Wainwright, Ari Shapiro, les Von Trapps, la grande chanteuse de cabaret Meow Meow,le talentueux clarinettiste de 95 ans Leyden et la pionnière légendaire du cinéma Phyllis Diller. Cet album regroupe 16 chansons chantées en neuf langues différentes... c'est un album pour tomber amoureux ou rompre... pour passer l'aspirateur ou pour conduire !" – Thomas M Lauderdale. L’aventure Pink Martini débute en 1994, dans l’Oregon. Originellement centré autour de Thomas M. Lauderdale et China Forbes, le groupe aux inspirations et collaborations multiples chante en anglais, français, mais aussi espagnol, italien, japonais, croate… Leur style musical, éclectique, passe « d’une samba digne d’une parade à Rio de Janeiro à la musique d’un cabaret français des années 30 ou d’un palais napolitain, un peu comme une sorte de voyage musical urbain. », d’après les mots de Thomas Lauderdale. « On essaye de créer une sorte de charmant environnement musical, dont on peut augmenter ou baisser le volume, et jouer en toute occasion, ou presque : musique d’ambiance, aventure amoureuse ou quand on passe l’aspirateur chez soi ! ». Un cocktail qui fait effet, puisque leurs chansons ont été utilisées dans divers films (Nurse Betty, In The Cut), séries (The Sopranos, Dead Like Me) et publicités. Leur premier album, « Sympathique », sort en 1997 chez Heinz Records, sous licence Naïve en Europe. On y retrouve le morceau-phare « Je ne veux pas travailler », qui va faire connaître le groupe en Europe en étant la bande-son de la publicité pour la Picasso de Citroen. Cet album se vendra à plus de 720 000 exemplaires dans le monde, et « Je ne veux pas travailler » sera sacrée « Chanson de l’Année » aux Victoires de la Musique françaises en 2000. 7 ans plus tard, c’est au tour de « Hang On Little Tomato » de voir le jour. Dans la lignée de « Sympathique », il confirme le potentiel du groupe, notamment en France, où il est certifié Disque de Platine (plus de 480 000 exemplaires dans le monde). Vient ensuite « Hey Eugene » en 2007, du nom du tube pop acclamé par le public, racontant une déception amoureuse. Plus léger que les albums précédents, « même s’il y a d’inévitables moments mélancoliques », admet Thomas Lauderdale, ce 3ème effort est sans conteste le plus gros succès médiatique du groupe à ce jour. Symboles de l’énergie créative sans cesse grandissante de Thomas Lauderdale, les 4ème et 5ème albums du groupe, « Splendor In The Grass » et « Joy To The World », ne sortent qu’à une seule année d’intervalle, respectivement en 2009 et 2010. Le premier, entre jazz, cha cha cha en français et adaptation de thèmes classiques, comprend 13 chansons, dont 4 reprises. Sur le deuxième, enregistré pour les fêtes de Noël, les douze musiciens ont choisi de revisiter de grands classiques comme « White Christmas », mais aussi des morceaux moins connus, en s’entourant toujours de chœurs et d’autres figures de la chanson (la japonaise Saori Yuki par exemple, avec qui ils ont d’ailleurs d’enregistré un album). C’est le 23 septembre 2013 que sort leur nouvel album studio « Get Happy ». LA MUSIQUE "Nous sommes en quelque sorte des archéologues de la musique : nous réunissons des mélodies et des rythmes des quatre coins du monde pour créer quelque chose de moderne ", explique Thomas M. Lauderdale, fondateur et pianiste du groupe. " C'est comme un carnet de voyage musical… et je pense qu'en tant que citoyens du monde et, en un sens, en tant qu'ambassadeurs musicaux des Etats-Unis, nous devons toujours nous efforcer d'étudier la langue, les coutumes et l'histoire des autres pays. Nous sommes définitivement un groupe américain mais nous passons beaucoup de temps à l'étranger, en Europe, en Turquie, au Liban… Nous avons ainsi la possibilité de démontrer que les Américains prennent très à cœur d'engager un dialogue avec le reste du monde." "L'un de nos objectifs est de produire une musique qui s'adresse à un large public, quel qu'il soit et d'où qu'il vienne. Nous jouons les mêmes morceaux où que nous soyons, dans une petite communauté rurale au fin fond de l'Oregon ou en compagnie d'un orchestre symphonique en France ou en Turquie. La musique doit ressembler à un merveilleux dîner. Je ne veux pas toujours être assis à côté des gens qui partagent mon point de vue. Je pense que chacun de nous souhaite connaître un vaste éventail d'influences, c'est ce qui rend la vie bien plus intéressante. Chaque jour devient alors une aventure." "Mon plus grand espoir est que nous soyons à même de créer un papier peint musical exquis qui puisse être retourné et joué à presque chaque occasion, toile de fond d'une soirée romantique ou bande-son d'un après-midi ménage. Avec ses superbes mélodies et ses paroles magnifiques, je pense que notre musique permet de nouveau aux gens de danser et chanter. Elle est définitivement romantique, exprime l'espoir et un optimisme éternel, sans pour autant oublier que la tristesse est omniprésente dans ce monde."     BIOGRAPHY In 1994 in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Lauderdale was working in politics, thinking that one day he would run for mayor. Like other eager politicians-in- training, he went to every political fundraiser under the sun… but was dismayed to find the music at these events underwhelming, lackluster, loud and un-neighborly. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop – and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for political fundraisers for causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, libraries, public broadcasting, education and parks. One year later, Lauderdale called China Forbes, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City, and asked her to join Pink Martini. They began to write songs together. Their first song “Sympathique” became an overnight sensation in France, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards, and to this day remains a mantra (“Je ne veux pas travailler” or “I don’t want to work”) for striking French workers.
