3/13/18 ASTROLOGY 101: CHART ANALYSIS ASTROLOGY 101 Class 3: • Approaching the chart as a whole CREATE A PROCESS • Charts can be overwhelming- there are so many details! • Develop a strategy to approach a chart • Identify most important themes, challenges, and strengths • Use keywords to layer meaning 1 3/13/18 STEP 1-3 • Sun – I am essence • Moon – Emotions, instincts, predominant needs • Ascendant– How others see you, how you relate to the outside world, your physical body STEPS 1-4 • Sun – Identify sign and house • Moon – Identify sign and house • Ascendant – Identify ruling planet • Planetary ruler of the sign on the house cusp • For example: Aries rising has Mars as its ruler STEP 4 • What sign rules the Ascendant? • That sign’s ruling planet is your chart ruler, and it has prominence in your chart 2 3/13/18 STEPS 1-4 : BASIC INTERPRETATION • Come up with a couple of sentences about each one using keywords for planet, sign, and house. • For example: • Sun in Aries in the First House would be something like: • The native is assertive, takes initiative, is enterprising, is independent and takes action (Sun in Aries). Others notice (first house) their assertiveness, willingness to take the lead, and outgoing nature (Sun in Aries). INTERPRETING CHARTS • Moon– Emotions, primary needs • Layer keywords • Example: Moon in Aries in the third house • Moon in Aries: You have a need (Moon) to initiate new things, to take action, and to assert yourself. You express your emotions (Moon) assertively, with passion (Aries). • Moon in Aries in the Third House: Your emotional nature is assertive and communicative. You may have a strong need to express your emotions verbally or through written communication. You may have emotional relationships with your siblings. XI-XV). El conocimiento científico, en particular conceptos astronómicos y astrológicos, al igual que la poesía, jugó un papel importante en el currículo de los musulmanes y judíos de la Edad Media. Ahora bien, la transmisión de este conocimiento científico en forma poética tuvo lugar tanto en árabe, como en griego y latín (poesía didáctica). Además, en sus orígenes el piyyu̪ (ajeno a la tradición sefardí y anterior a influencia islámica alguna) también hizo breves alusiones a temas astronómicos. Abstract: This article is a preliminary overview of the presence of astronomical-astrological knowledge in a considerable number of poems written by Jews in Sepharad or rooted in the Sephardic tradition (11th-15th c.). Scientific knowledge, notably astronomical and astrological concepts, played an important role in the curriculum of medieval Muslims and Jews, as did poetry. However, the transmission of scientific knowledge in poetic form took place not only in Arabic, but also in Greek and Latin (didactic poetry).

The Zodiac itself represents or incorporates the totality of consciousness in human form on the earth in space-time reality. All of our human experience within the relative universe is contained within the 12 signs of the Zodiac. The next central point to understand is that from the perspective of Evolutionary Astrology there is no essential difference between a planetary embodiment of an archetype or that of a house cusp or planet – in simple terms, with the example of the first archetype Aries - there is no difference between the sign Aries, the first house and the planet Mars. They all carry some essential quality as the first of the twelve – they all share an essential similarity. What you are actually looking at when you look at a chart is how any given consciousness is structured. The 12 archetypes provide energy and quality within a multiplicity of possible interactions with each other to create the diversity of possible experience in life on earth. Rather like DNA the 12 strands or archetypes of the zodiac provide a blueprint for all experience. ARIES Aries is a Cardinal, Fire and Yang archetype. This correlates with the nature of energy moving outwards from the center, projected energy (whereas the Yin archetypes correspond to energy returning to the center). Whilst the Yin/Yang dynamic of the signs represents the natural polarity of our universe, the trinity of Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable signs adds a further dimension to the type of energy expressed.

    Essential Dignities and Debilities A planet which has rulership over a sign has essential dignity in that sign.1 Types of Essential Dignity There are five types of rulership in traditional astrology: domicile, exaltation, triplicity, bound/term, decan/face.1 Each level of rulership corresponds to a different level of responsibility.1 Dignity, Behavior, and Responsibility A planet with rulership over a house is responsible for seeing that the affairs of that house are carried out as well as possible.1 When a planet in rulership has essential dignity, it tends to behave in a balanced and controlled way, and things tend to turn out well.1,3 Dignity supports a planet in being more of what it's supposed to be.3 Planets without essential dignity have a difficult time behaving well.1 Planets that have debility are trying to be something they're not. They don't know what they are.3 People with debilitated planets tend to feel motivated to correct an imbalanced planet. An important point, the Drekkana indicates the happiness that the native has with siblings/relations, not the life of the siblings. The life of the siblings is indicated by the relevant Bhava cusp that represents the sibling (3rd for younger, 11th for elder) and that Bhava cusp needs to be read in all Vargas – that is how the life of the siblings is to be read. What the Drekkana itself represents is the capacity that we have to work with all our relations towards mutually fulfilling goals and thus it indicates our happiness with our relations. Afflicted Bhavas and afflicted lords indicate those people in our live with whom we work less effectively; while strong Bhavas and lords in good Lajjitaadi Avasthas indicate those people with whom we work very effectively. Individuals with a good Drekkana are socially able, while those with troubled Drekkanas are socially unable. Remember that the 3rd Bhava, for which the Drekkana is the important Varga, represents an individual’s social ability. The social ability represented by the Drekkana and by the 3rd Bhava is initially developed through the association with siblings, and so ability with siblings is an important aspect of the Drekkana, but the Drekkana is not limited to our social ability with just siblings, it reflects our social ability with everyone that we come across.
