Caste is hostile to individual and collective freedom. In recent years, there have been new attempts to understand the socio-economic conditions of the life of SCs/STs and dalit peoples and household in India. The SCs/STs, and Dalits throughout the country occupy the lowest rank in the caste hierarchy. They are landless agricultural and casual labourers. They are mostly engaged in menial jobs which adds to lower their social and ritual status further and still being suppressed and oppressed in different forms of social, economic and political spheres in many parts of the country.
