In 1927 he sold around 700 images as well as many artefacts to the Australian Museum. The photographs are striking and evocative of Papuan culture at the time, and will interest members of the PNGAA. The exhibition opened in late March and will run until Sunday 29 May 2011. Contact Phil Ainsworth email: [email protected] or phone 0418 730 348. 3 Superannuation Update: Correction to the Superannuation Update contained in the March 2011 Una Voce (Page 7): In view of a query received from a Member regarding Fred Kaad‘s Superannuation Update in the March 2011 Una Voce (page 7), the point Fred was endeavouring to highlight was the difference between the indexing of superannuation pensions (‗ComSuper‘ pensions) by the annual percentage changes in the CPI (Consumer Price Index) method as against the indexing of age pensions (which are paid by Centrelink) by the annual percentage changes in the MTAWE (Male Total Average Weekly Earnings). The important part of Fred‘s comparison was that a superannuation pension of $25,000 pa would have only increased to $37,724 pa in 11 years using the CPI percentage changes, whereas had the MTAWE changes been used, that $25,000 pension would have increased to $50,106 pa. Those of our members who are superannuated members from the former services in PNG should study the Centrelink literature and, if needed, discuss the situation with one of its officers. The idea was conceived in 2007 as a way to assist HIV positive women and disadvantaged women from the settlements of Mt Hagen who have faced ongoing challenges to establish a sustainable market to sell their bilum products.     This book penetrates the facade Peter G. Sack Land Between of colonial law to consider European land acquisitions Two Laws in the context of a complex historical process. Its context is land, but it is fundamentally a legal study of the problems arising out of the dichotomy between traditional New Early European Land Guinea law and imposed Prussian law. Though these Acquisitions in New Guinea problems arose out of events that took place more than fifty years ago, they are of immediate relevance for New Guinea in the 1970s. They are mostly still unsolved and are only now emerging from under the layers of po­ litical compromise that have concealed them. Dr Sack emphasises the differences between tra­ ditional and introduced law in New Guinea in order to in ­ vestigate the chances of a synthesis between them. He offers no panacea, but points up clearly the tasks which must be accomplished before the 'land between two laws' can become a truly indepen­ dent state. This is an essential work for anthropologists, lawyers and all those con­ cerned with the emergence of a stable, unified Papua New Guinea. This book penetrates the facade Peter G. It can certainly be identified from medieval times, at least in Britain through the adoption of craft guild progression structures: apprenticeship, journeyman craftsman (mate), master craftsman. In British seafaring two levels of apprenticeship evolved: seaman apprenticeship and officer apprenticeship. With the opening of the oceans in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, educational dimensions, especially navigation, began to be taught ashore as well as at sea, to those destined for command. Until well into the nineteenth century, skills aspects, grouped under the term seamanship, were always learned or taught through example and experience aboard ships engaged in commercial trading.

    This is not a complete record of all those that fell during the two wars, with some of the fallen having no information available whatsoever. However there are 222 names from within the district that I have been able to provide a narrative for and this booklet hopefully will provide a lasting memory for future generations to view and understand the lives behind the names on the various memorials around Launceston. It has not been easy piecing together the fragments of information particularly from the first world war where many records were destroyed in the blitz of the second world war, but there are many resources now available that do make the research a little easier. Hopefully over time the information that is lack- ing in making this a complete story will be discovered and I can bring all the re- cords up to date. Of course there have been many people that have helped and I would like to thank Peter Bailey, Claudine Malaquin, Dennis Middleton, Jim Edwards, Martin Kel- land, Grant Lethbridge Morris and Michael Willis for their invaluable help in compiling this homage plus the resources that are freely available at Launceston Library.
