USD has a significant impact on the Vermillion community and the regional economy, according to an economic impact report commissioned by the Board of Regents. Based on Fiscal Year 2016 data, the University of South Dakota generated about $786 million in annual economic impact to South Dakota from a state investment of $56.6 million. An estimated 20,308 people live in our state because of USD’s presence and the accompanying economic activity. USD directly supports about 1,600 full-time jobs in South Dakota and more than 6,800 full-time jobs from the university’s resulting economic activity.
