NEIGHBORHOOD & PROJECT UPDATES:

I. BPC Safety o Working with partners at NYC DOT, BPCA’s secured approval for placement of granite blocks on the sidewalk in front of PS/IS 276 o Overall BPCA security assessment also underway, to be completed during spring 2018

BPCA placed granite blocks at PS/IS 276’s student arrival/dismissal area on November 22.

II. Empire State Relief & Recovery Effort for Puerto Rico o Neighborhood drop-off locations:  Battery Park City Parks Headquarters @ 75 Battery Place (8:30am- 4:30PM, Monday-Friday)  Community Center at Stuyvesant High School (7PM-9:30PM Daily) o Only the following goods will be accepted: batteries, flashlights, portable lanterns, diapers, baby wipes, cases of water, and feminine hygiene products o Items must be unopened and in their original packaging

III. BPC Wayfinding Initiative o Project kick-off with BPC Committee on December 5, 2017 o Back to BPC Committee in February-March 2018 timeframe o Design process through fall 2018, installation to begin late 2018/early 2019

IV. BPC Ball Field Terrace and Community Center / Asphalt Green o Leak assessment being completed; remediation targeted to begin spring 2018

V. BPC Sea Wall & Esplanade Expansion Joint Repair o Multi-year project to repair Esplanade expansion joints and ensure integrity and longevity of sea wall o First phase to begin summer 2018

VI. “Bed A” / Gateway Property Line Wall Project o Ongoing work to restore the planting bed and repair portion of damaged property line wall between Gateway Plaza and BPC Esplanade o Ground settlement over years has affected roughly 50-foot section of the wall o Scheduled for completion by year-end (w/new plantings next spring)

VII. Granite Remediation o Repair of broken granite blocks and asphalt pavers throughout BPC o Last phase now being completed @ Liberty Ramp

VIII. Rockefeller Park Playground o Repair and in-kind replacement of worn equipment approaching end of its useful life o Establishing schedule to minimize interference with use of playground during warm weather months

IX. Tribeca Bridge Repainting o Work targeted to begin spring 2018

X. 200 Rector Place Interior Fit Out o Work underway on new community space, office space & Allied Universal Command Center, replacing former space @ The Regatta o Targeting February 2018 for completion

PROGRAM & STATUS UPDATES

I. BPC Parks Lawns o Closed for season week of November 20; to reopen April 2018

II. BPC Parks Programming o Drew roughly 65,000 guests to 1,200 classes, programs, and events in 2017 o COMING SOON: 2018 Winter Events Calendar, including more than 500 programs and events open to all!

III. BPC Seniors Working Group o Met Wednesday, November 15 @ 10:00am as part of regular check-ins o Next meeting TBD in early 2018

IV. Community Center at Stuyvesant High School | 345 Chambers Street o Hours (Sept.-June): M–F., 7pm – 10pm; Sat. – Sun., 1pm – 9pm o Annual Full Access Membership Rates:  Adults (18+): $199 | Adult BPC Residents: $179  Youth, Seniors (62+), Military: $79 | BPC Resident Youths, Seniors & Military: $59  Day passes also available and are $15 for adults and $10 for youth, seniors, military & BPC residents

ANNOUNCEMENTS / UPCOMING:

I. Holiday Lights – Thursday Nite @ South Cove

II. Koenig Sphere Dedication o The Port Authority of & New Jersey formally dedicated placement of the iconic Koenig Sphere in in November 29 ceremony o Sphere, which stood in the center of the Austin J. Tobin Plaza prior to 9/11 and was recovered from the rubble after the attacks, was on display in Battery Park since 2002; was returned in mid-August and has been visible to the public at its permanent home since September 2017 o BPCA Acting President B.J. Jones on the dedication:

“Though faced with unimaginable adversity on September 11th, 2001, each passing year gives us new opportunities to recover, rebuild, and honor those we lost. Now in this time and place, overlooking the 9/11 Memorial, the Koenig Sphere has at long last come to its rightful destination. Battered and beaten but structurally sound, may it forever stand as testament to our unyielding resilience and serve as a beacon of peace. Welcome home.”

V. “ePermit” Application o First phase of new online permitting application now available o Allows individuals to apply for select BPC Permits and submit payment for permit issuance

Skyscraper Museum o New exhibit, Millennium: in the 1990s, runs thru April 2018 o Multimedia exhibition vividly recaptures this strange and formative time in the history of New York’s historic commercial hub through a striking combination of architectural drawings and models, archival and contemporary photographs, original posters, maps, sketches, renderings, and other documents of the era o For more information: skyscraper.org/millennium
