We feel we have made progress in the further development of The Tennessee Genealogical Society to meet its objectives. Our membership at the end of 1968 was 796. As of November 10, 1969, we had 877 subscribing members and are very optimistic that we will reach our goal of 900 by the end of the Calendar year, 1969. We have sold in excess of 350 back issues of our publications during the year. The above indicated sales assure that we can end the year financially solvent. I wish to publicly congratulate Jewel and her staff for the Sesquicentennial Edition of "Ansearchin'" News. They did an excellent job of collecting and assembling infor mation on early Shelby County and West Tennessee. Our 1969 Seminar was a very informative meeting and apparently thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. The instructors did an excellent job in presenting their subjects. Mr. Coddington and Mrs. Livingston made themselves available at all times for personal questions and queries. They knew their subjects and were prepared at all times to assist those in attendance. Thanks Virginia and John. We hope you will visit us again. We had 79 registered and 62 attended the banquet. Total receipts were $1,697.55 and expenditures were $1,464.92 with a net profit of $232.63. I was disappointed that so many who participated in the last Seminar were unable to attend this year. A project of this magnitude takes many hours in planning and implementing and it is regrettable when the attendance is below expectations. Betty Moore and her committee did an excellent job in planning and conducting the Seminar. Many thanks to each of you for the hours expended and the good job well done. Our guest speaker for the October night meeting was Mrs. W. O. Harrell, Jackson, Miss. Mrs. Harrell is associated with the Mississippi Archives and gave a very informative presentation on Mississippi records that were available and how they should be used. There were 49 members present which was the largest number we have had at a meeting in several years. Please keep up this type of attendance since it is difficult to obtain good speakers if the attendance is low; and besides, you are missing an opportunity to hear things that will assist you in your research. Officers were elected at the October meeting for the next two years. They will be installed at our January 1970 meeting. They are: President, William L. Crawford (Bill); Vice-President, Mrs. Rivers Young (Katherine); Treasurer, S. Caya Phillips (Caya); Editor, Mrs. Edwin M. Standefer (Jewel); Associate Editor, Mrs. Henry N. Moore (Betty); Recording Secretary, Mrs. John W. McDonald (Ruth); Librarian, Mrs. Charles R. Gilley (Henrietta); Corresponding Secretary, Mrs. R. S. Wilroy (ErIe); Director of Research, Miss Bernice Cole; Director, Four Years, Mrs. Byron G. Hyde (Myrtis); Director, Two Years, Mr. L. B. Gardiner (Laurence). It has been a pleasure to serve as your president during 1969, and I am looking forward to the next two years. Sincerely, ~r~ "Ansearchin' II News -152- NOTE FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Our apologies to Ruth Wyckoff Hunt and her aunt, Mrs. Charles Edward Theobald for the omission of their names as contributors of THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH RECORDS which appeared in the last issue of '~nsearchin'" News. Your editor was not advised of the donors until after its publication. Our thanks to both of these ladies for this valuable contribution. THE GENEALOGICAL PUBLISHING COMPANY, 521-23 St. Paul St., Baltimore, Md., announced the death of Mr. Jules Chodak, founder of the world's largest genealogical publish ing house, at his home in Baltimore on July 24, 1969.
