Job Description: WNIJ / WNIU, DeKalb-Rockford seeks a Development Director with a passion for public broadcasting to oversee fundraising and community outreach activities. This person coordinates all fundraising and marketing efforts for our network of five radio stations and a radio reading service for the print-impaired. Areas of oversight include annual giving, grants, corporate support and special events, with an emphasis on individual giving. In addition, the Development Department heads up the stations’ marketing and public relations campaigns as well. The successful candidate will be part of the management team of Northern Public Radio and will supervise a staff of four.

WNIJ and WNIU provide a growing, dynamic public service to multiple communities west of the Chicago metropolitan area. The DeKalb, Illinois community is home to 25,000-student Northern Illinois University (our licensee), whose alumni include Dan Castellaneta (the voice of Homer Simpson) and former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. The largest area served by our signal is Rockford, Illinois, whose metro population is about 350,000. Repeater stations are located in Freeport, Sterling, and LaSalle, IL. The Northern Public Radio stations are licensed to Northern Illinois University. Job Qualifications: An ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about public broadcasting and possess: demonstrated fundraising success, strong communication and marketing skills, proven managerial skill, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and strengthen relationships with listeners and members.

Job Requirements: BA or equivalent, with a minimum of three years full-time development/fundraising experience.
