PLATFORMS

• Whilst Palantir Gotham is an impressive alternative to Ushahidi, the costs of using the platform are not clear, whereas Ushahidi is a free, tried and tested platform.

SURVEY BUILDING AND DATA MANAGEMENT

• Akvo FLOW is a reputable product with widespread usage. It is part of an umbrella organisation for international aid/development technology including Akvo RSR, Akvo OpenAid, and AkvoPedia; all of these combined provide a powerful tool for assessing and sharing data.

• With OpenDataKit creation of forms is simple, and collecting and

aggregating data can done both with and without internet connectivity. SMS

• InSTEDD GeoChat facilitates geolocated communication over email, Twitter, and real-time chat, as well as SMS. They have also developed relationships with several local mobile operators to reduce SMS costs.

• RapidSMS is an award-winning product that’s highly customisable so will integrate easily with other data management tools.

MAPPING AND DATA FEEDS

• Geofeedia provides a clear interface for searching and viewing time- stamped, location-tagged social media including Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and Instagram.

• Ushahidi CrowdMap is the only product that accepts all relevant data feeds and can dynamically update the data to a map.
