Mit ein paar Impressionen von der Premiere des Kinofilms DIE KIR- CHE BLEIBT IM DORF, zu der wir am vergangenen Mittwoch ein- geladen waren, möchten wir uns in den Sommerurlaub verabschieden. S ist wie fast jedes Jahr: erst wenn alle Anderen ihren Urlaub schon absolviert haben, sind wir dran. Aber so ein richtiger Urlaub ist das eigentlich gar nicht. Nichts von we- gen faul am Strand liegen und sich Filme in HD auf dem Smartphone reinziehen! Das Fantasy Filmfest Fotos (c) 2012 by Wolfram Hannemann steht bereits vor der Tür und wird uns wieder eine ganze Woche lang von morgens bis spät in die Nacht hinein mit aktueller Filmware ver- sorgen. Wie immer werden wir be- müht sein, möglichst viele der prä- sentierten Filme auch tatsächlich zu sehen. Schließlich wird eine Groß- zahl der Produktionen bereits kurze Zeit nach Ende des Festivals auf DVD und BD verfügbar sein. Und da möchte man natürlich schon vor- her wissen, ob sich ein Kauf lohnen wird. Nach unserer Sommerpause werden wir in einem der Newsletter wieder ein Resümee des Festivals ziehen. Past research depicts an evolution in journalism film ethics, where the film industry has portrayed journalists as both good guys and bad guys. Advances in the film industry and narrative storytelling have allowed for more complicated plots to be featured on dramatic television shows which lends itself to fostering more discussion on a larger variety of ethical dilemmas with a larger variety of outcomes. Samoy&3& INTRODUCTION The image of the journalist in film and television has a long and varied history. Meet John Doe in the 1941 was comedic, All the President’s Men in 1976 was a heroic drama while 1976’s satirical Network had a more cynical take on journalism. These classic journalism movies are some of the films that mark trends in the media’s portrayal of journalists. This study aims to examine the modern portrayal of journalists on recent fictional dramatic television shows. -

Torti Department Honors Advisor Dean, Honors College May 2014 ii ABSTRACT This thesis looks at the representation of rape in American Horror Story, considering its formal and narrative construction alongside critical responses, drawing attention to both innovative and stereotypical aspects of its function within the series. While the series generally revels in representing explicitly violent and abject topics through fantasy and the employment of various horror elements, it also incorporates representations of rape with remarkable frequency. In its first three seasons, the series integrated rape narratives a whopping eleven times within 38 episodes, with each new episode of American Horror Story thus having a nearly 29% chance of representing rape or sexual assault in some way. The pervasiveness of rape in American Horror Story is undeniable, yet little to no critical discourse examines its continual use and subsequent impact on conversations surrounding rape culture. While other popular and current television series’ singular inclusions of rape narratives—such as Downton Abbey, Scandal, Mad Men, etc.—have been widely discussed by critics and fans alike, the representation of rape in American Horror Story remains largely unnoted.
