A Dossier of Texts for the Augustinian Hermits of Lucca Abstract In 1506, the vicar general of the diocese of Lucca authorized a notarized dossier of texts, most of them papal, favoring the observant house of the Augustinian Hermits in that city. Some of these texts had themselves been notarized to make them useful in litigation. Along with the papal letters, there are previously unknown letters of Enrico del Carretto, bishop of Lucca (d. 1323), and Alexander de S, Elpidio, a prior general of the Hermits. The probable moving force in this compilation was Antonius de Meliis, a leading figure among the observants. This dossier was later copied into a manuscript which was located at the Augustinian convent in Crema. The manuscript is now found at the Van Pelt Library of the University of Pennsylvania. • New Weapons for Natural Killer Cell Arsenal Against Hematological Malignancies
cells Review Checkpoint Inhibitors and Engineered Cells: New Weapons for Natural Killer Cell Arsenal Against Hematological Malignancies Massimo Giuliani 1,* and Alessandro Poggi 2 1 Department of Oncology, Luxembourg Institute of Health, Luxembourg City L-1526, Luxembourg 2 Molecular Oncology and Angiogenesis Unit, IRCCS AOU San Martino IST, 16132 Genoa, Italy; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Received: 1 June 2020; Accepted: 25 June 2020; Published: 29 June 2020 Abstract: Natural killer (NK) cells represent one of the first lines of defense against malignant cells. NK cell activation and recognition are regulated by a balance between activating and inhibitory receptors, whose specific ligands can be upregulated on tumor cells surface and tumor microenvironment (TME). Hematological malignancies set up an extensive network of suppressive factors with the purpose to induce NK cell dysfunction and impaired immune-surveillance ability. Over the years, several strategies have been developed to enhance NK cells-mediated anti-tumor killing, while other approaches have arisen to restore the NK cell recognition impaired by tumor cells and other cellular components of the TME. In this review, we summarize and discuss the strategies applied in hematological malignancies to block the immune check-points and trigger NK cells anti-tumor effects through engineered chimeric antigen receptors. Keywords: NK cells; hematological malignancies; check-point inhibitors; CAR NK cells; antibodies; immunotherapy 1. Tumor-Mediated NK Cell Exhaustion in Hematological Malignancies NK cells represent one of the first lines of defense against malignant cells. Their immune- surveillance ability is mediated by the expression of activating receptors such as the natural killer group (NKG)2D, DNAX accessory molecule (DNAM)-1, and the natural cytotoxic receptors (NCRs) such as natural killer protein (NKp)30, NKp44, and NKp46 [1–5].

  • Graduate Program in Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology
1 GRADUATE PROGRAM IN BALKAN AND EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN ARCHAEOLOGY A JOINT PROGRAM OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGY AT THE NEW BULGARIAN UNIVERSITY AND THE BALKAN HERITAGE FOUNDATION The MA program in Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology is thought in English, and offered in partnership with the Balkan Heritage Foundation, presents a mix of specialized courses in the archaeology of Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean and more generalized courses covering important topics in archaeological method and theory that enable them to conduct research worldwide. Many of our courses prepare students for archaeological fieldwork, although others, such as Geographic Information Systems and Reflectance Transformation Imaging, are broadly applicable to fields outside archaeology. The online platform gives students access to an international group of professors from Great Britain, the USA, Denmark and other countries, allowing them to engage with diverse perspectives and research traditions across continents. The two year MA program requires the student to participate in two obligatory field schools. Students may choose from a broad range of projects in archaeology and conservation organized by the Balkan Heritage Foundation (www.bhfieldschool.org/program). The field school fees are included in the MA program fees (except for the Underwater archaeology field school, for details please refer to Table 1 below). Most of the courses are taught online weekly via the ‘Digital Classroom’ software. Students must come to Sofia, Bulgaria two times in June for practical courses at the Archaeometry Lab of the New Bulgarian University. At the close of the two weeks in Sofia students will leave for field schools in Bulgaria or in another Balkan/Eastern Mediterranean country.
