  • Youth Bidi, Kretek, Or Pipe Tobacco Use
2013 Florida Youth Tobacco Survey: Fact Sheet 10 Youth Bidi, Kretek, or Pipe Tobacco Use Introduction The Florida Youth Tobacco Survey (FYTS) was administered in the spring of 2013 to 6,440 middle school students and 6,175 high school students in 172 public schools throughout the state. The overall survey response rate for middle schools was 83%, and the overall survey response rate for high schools was 75%. The FYTS has been conduct- ed annually since 1998. The data presented in this fact sheet are weighted to represent the entire population of public middle and high school students in Florida. About Bidis, Kreteks, and Pipe Tobacco Bidis are small brown cigarettes from India consisting of tobacco wrapped in a leaf tied together with a thread. Bidis have higher levels of nicotine, carbon monoxide, and tar than traditional cigarettes. Kreteks are cigarettes containing tobacco and clove extract. In 2009, the Food and Drug Administration banned kreteks, along with flavored cigarettes, from being sold in the United States. Pipe tobacco comes either plain or flavored and is smoked through a pipe. On previous FYTS fact sheets, bidis, kreteks, and pipe tobacco have been Figure 1. Biblical scholars, for instance, focused again on the interpretation of the notorious conundrum and on the Traditionsgeschichte of Antichrist. For some of those commentators it was a reply to the outpouring of sensationalist publications fuelled by the millennial mania. This paper aims to shed some light on the background, the sources, and the interpretation of the “number of the beast”. It explores the ancient techniques for understanding the conundrum including: gematria, arithmetic, symbolic, and riddle-based solutions.

  • ASH NEW ZEALAND Tobacco Returns Analysis 2013 1 TOBACCO
ASH NEW ZEALAND Tobacco Returns Analysis 2013 TOBACCO RETURNS ANALYSIS 2013 Tobacco manufacturers and importers in New Zealand are required to file their annual tobacco returns pursuant to section 35 of the Smokefree Environments Act 1990. The tobacco returns consist of two components – Schedule A and Schedule B. Schedule A is the information about ingredients and amounts used in their tobacco products. Schedule B is the company list of all their products, retail price and sale quantity We analysed data from Schedule B in order to understand the brand positioning of the major tobacco companies. This includes analysis of retail price, sale volume and estimated sales returned of all tobacco brands. Market share also is estimated based on this data. This analysis accounted for cigarette and loose leaf tobacco products sold within New Zealand (or domestic market). Information provided by tobacco companies may vary and hence the results of the analysis. British American Tobacco New Zealand (BATNZ) provided recommended retail prices as at January 2013 while Imperial Tobacco New Zealand and Philip Morris provided theirs as at December 2013. This had resulted in artificially higher estimates of average retail price and sale return for BATNZ products due to the January 2014 tax increase. Having considered this, most of the results on overall tobacco market in this analysis were presented according to the sale quantity and hence better accuracy. Fourteen companies filed their tobacco returns in 2013. As this analysis only included cigarette and loose leaf tobacco products, three companies were excluded as they sold cigar or other tobacco products. Tobacco Returns 2012 can be accessed through the National Drug Policy New Zealand website (http://www.ndp.govt.nz/moh.nsf/indexcm/ndp-tobacco-returns-2012 ).

  • Ethnic Smoking Fact Sheet -- Mtf Updated Version
TOBACCO USE AND HISPANICS Despite reductions in smoking prevalence achieved since the first Surgeon General’s report on the consequences of smoking in 1964, smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.1 Smoking accounts for more than 480,000 deaths in the United States each year, and is a major risk factor for the four leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and stroke.2 Tobacco Use Among Hispanic Adults According the 2019 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) of adults ages 18 and over, 8.8 percent of Hispanic adults in the United States are current smokers, compared to 15.5 percent of Whites, 14.9 percent of African, Americans, 20.9 percent of American Indian/Alaska Natives, and 7.2 percent of Asian Americans. Overall, 14.0 percent of U.S. adults are current smokers.3 Current smoking prevalence among Hispanics reflects nearly 46 percent decrease from 2005, when the rate was 16.2 percent. Hispanic smokers also tend to consume fewer cigarettes per day than non-Hispanic white smokers and are less likely to be daily smokers than smokers of all other racial/ethnic groups. 4 However, research also shows that—as with other immigrant groups—smoking behavior trends toward that of non-Hispanic whites as Hispanics acculturate to the United States, particularly for female Hispanics.5 While Hispanic smoking rates are low overall, differences exist within Hispanic subpopulations that are masked when surveys group Hispanics as a single population. For example, according to combined NHIS data from 2009-2013, 21.6 percent of Puerto Ricans, 18.2 percent of Cubans, 13 percent of Mexicans, and 9.2 percent of Central or South Americans are current smokers (the overall smoking prevalence for Hispanics during this time period was 13.5%).6 In addition, smoking rates are significantly higher for U.S.-born Hispanics than for foreign- born Hispanics in the U.S.
