We tend to take this for granted, but recent events should remind us of the fragility of life. We live freely as Jews in our home country but are still surrounded by growing anti-semistism In Europe and continued rocket attacks in the south of the country. We live in a modern, advanced society yet nd ourselves at the mercy of a worldwide outbreak of a new u virus and raging wildres in Australia. These all remind us of just how delicate the balance of life can be on our planet and this denitely includes our environment which we also tend to take for granted. In this edition of our magazine we chose to explore the topic of sustainability in Israel and how we should and can make a dierence to the environment. Our Olim are making exciting contributions in dierent elds such as environment friendly construction, recycling, sustainable gardening, solar power and beach clean ups. We are proud to share these stories with you and also encourage you to read and learn more about the various initiatives in Israel. Sustenance is dened as ‘strengthening or supporting something mentally or physically’ and I truly believe this represents our role in Telfed. With our remarkable and unique sta and volunteers we continue to welcome, support and strengthen the Southern African and Australian communities in Israel. At the end of the day, this is our home and we should not take it for granted. Taking an active role to build, strengthen and ‘keep it clean’ is something we should be doing all the time - not just at Pesach. Wishing you all a Chag Sameach Batya Shmukler We need YOU..
