For models manufactured 1903 - 1971, please refer to the Mannlicher Schoenauer Sporting Rifles More Information section in this text. All known calibers are listed for each model. Caliber offerings varied often throughout the 28 year run of the Steyr- Photo Percentage Mannlicher, stock designs evolved, and sights and magazine styles changed. The only truly rare caliber is the 6mm Rem., which was Grading System always special order. Next in North American rarity is the .25-06. Certain additional European calibers are rare in the USA because they Search were not imported due to lack of popularity - 5.6x57mm, 6.5x57mm, 6x62mm Freres, 6.5x65mm, and 9.3x62mm. All four action lengths, SL, L, M, S, were offered in numerous deluxe variations with engraving and stock carving on special order blued metal and highly polished engraved actions. Stock carving is heavy and elegant. A major irritant for hardcore Steyr-Mannlicher collectors is the continued misidentification of Luxus models by online sellers. First, a standard USA version Luxus has the word "Luxus" engraved on the left side of the receiver. A Luxus also has a steel box magazine instead of a rotary plastic one and a rotary shotgun style safety, although some apparently early Luxus models exist with the sliding side safety. Pricing shows the result of continued cost increases at Steyr, which finally caused the end of the production run and redesign to the SBS- 96 model to save costs, regain competition, and take advantage of improved safety features.
