The receiver is squared, better to accept sight mounts and scope rings. The stock has a Monte Carlo comb, and the handiwork on these rifles is excellent. Controls are large and easy to manipulate. After World War 2 they concentrated on civilian design; even during the interwar period, many of their designs were for civilians. The High Velocity is one of those rifles, produced from the early 1920 to World War 2. The rifle was named for the fast, heavy-caliber ammunition it fired. The High Velocity has a one-piece stock with machine checkering on the semi-pistol grip and fore-end; it is made from walnut. External metalwork is blued. Sights consist of a 3-leaf adjustable rear and a ramp front. It features a rotary detachable magazine and a butterknife bolt handle. The fore-end of the stock tapers to about halfway to the end of the barrel, which is 23.5-inch inches. While you do not get as exact a rifle in all parts, it does allow for interchangeable parts, something Merkel has done little of over the years. The barrel also has an interesting feature for a Merkel gun – it is both switch-barrel and uses a floating barrel once locked in. (A special wrench comes with the rifle for this purpose.) The action may be cycled without chambering a round, depending on how far the wrist switch is moved. In addition, the bolt action of the RX-Helix is such that pulling the bolt back moves the bolt twice as far – for example, pulling back the bolt enough to cycle a .22 WMR round is enough to cycle a 7.62mm NATO round. The cocking lever is textured and is spoon-shaped. The Safebolt system is used; the rifle can be fired only if a round is in place and the weapon is cocked, and the bolt down on a round. Walnut root is used for the stock. The action is fairly complicated; for example, a pair of squeeze flanges must be pulled to the rear, after which the magazine release may be pushed. Despite the complexity of operation, field stripping is a simple three-step process with no tools requited. Metal is blued. The scope mount was designed especially for the RX-Helix, but can take most scope mounts. Iron sights front and rear are provided. The action allows for any short action to be switched with another short action, and the same goes for magnum and standard-action rounds. Barrel length is 20 inches for a short-action, 22 inches for a standard-action, and 24 inches for a Magnum action. They are tipped by a target crown. • Steyr Scout, the Steyr Scout Provides the Ideal Solution for Versatility, Durability, Accuracy and Reliability in a Compact and Lightweight Bolt-Action Rifle Platform
Gun Africa Classifieds https://www.gunafrica.co.za/ Steyr Scout, The Steyr Scout provides the ideal solution for versatility, durability, accuracy and reliability in a compact and lightweight bolt-action rifle platform. Developed in a nearly decade-long collaboration with legendary Marine Corps Lt.Col. Jeff Cooper, the Scout boasts an extensive list of innovative features. Backup “ghost-ring” iron sights integrated to the top rail can be deployed within seconds should the optics fail. In keeping with Cooper’s requirement for a magazine cutoff, Steyr incorporated a two-position magazine system that allowed the rifle to be fed individually with the five-round magazine in a lowered position. The magazine could be seated one step further with minimal pressure, allowing the bolt to feed cartridges directly from the magazine. A second five-round backup magazine is contained in the buttstock in case of an urgent need to reload. With a fluted, cold-hammer-forged barrel measuring 19 inches, an overall length of 38.6 inches and an out-of-the-box weight of just 6.6 pounds, the Scout is a breeze to pack out on long adventures, patrolling the farm or taking a quick trip to the range. The compact design of the stock features an innovative integrated bipod that is hardly noticeable until it is folded out from the stock. • Sako Export 2013.Pdf
2013 Sako history begins when the company was founded in the early 1920´s. Sako has come a long way from nearly total hand manufacturing to todays computer aided R&D and CNC manufacturing. Nevertheless we have not forgotten the value of traditional gunsmithing. That’s why we still do some critical areas by hand. A good example of this is our inspection of each barrel visually and then shooting it manually for proof and accuracy. All our rifles comply with CIP and SAAMI requirements. At the turn of the millenium, Sako became an honored member of the Beretta Group. Sako gained access to new and refined production methods, which in turn enabled us to intensify our product development. The Sako model 85 was developed, based on the vast experience gained from the success of its predecessors. Our Sako 85 rifles have the worlds most advanced turnbolt action in 6 different action sizes. For the hunter this means tailor made and specific purpose rifles in each selected caliber. Further, the model A7 was developed to give hunters access to a medium priced Sako rifle. Not sacrificing first class workmanship or accuracy, but by optimizing the available action sizes and parts. We also manufacture the Sako Quad series, the world´s first rimfire bolt-action rifle with interchangeable barrels. This is the all-in-one rimfire package, for the serious rimmfire enthusiast. Sako also produces the well-known Tikka T3 rifle series. Aimed at the entry-level hunter, but loaded with the expected Sako quality and performance, its model range is so extensive that it is presented in its own catalogue.
