The 6-2, 220-pound senior has had two extraordinary seasons for the Chiefs. As a sophomore, he posted a 16-3 dual record, set a varsity record for most pins in a dual meet season (14), won the New England unlimited championship and finished second in the nation in Division 11. Last year, the Schenectady, New York, product was undefeated in all 18 of his matches, broke his own single season record for pins with 15 and won the New England title again by pinning all four of his opponents. Blatnick went on to win the Division I1 title, becoming the first Spring- field wrestler to win a national title, and fin- ished sixth in the Division I meet. For Release October 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. CT For more information: Jack Carnefix, Operations Manager, National Wrestling Hall of Fame 405-377-5243 [email protected] National Wrestling Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2020 STILLWATER, Okla. – The National Wrestling Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday that the Class of 2020 inductees are Distinguished Members Bruce Burnett, Dremiel Byers, Mark Lieberman and Bill Zadick, Meritorious Official Tim Shiels, Order of Merit recipient Gary Abbott, Medal of Courage recipient Gary Chopp and Outstanding American Carl Eschenbach. “This group has accomplished and done so much for wrestling and they continue to give back to our great sport,” said Lee Roy Smith, Executive Director of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. “We are proud to honor these remarkable individuals as our Class of 2020.” The Hall of Fame Board of Governors approved the selections at its meeting in Kansas City on Oct. 16. The induction ceremony will be held at the 44th Annual Honors Weekend on June 5-6, 2020 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. For more information on Honors Weekend, please telephone (405) 377-5243. Byers and Zadick were chosen as Distinguished Members for the Modern Era while Burnett and Lieberman were selected by the Veterans Committee. Calderon, Chair SCR 26 (Correa) – As Amended: May 9, 2013 SENATE VOTE: 37-0 SUBJECT: Wrestling: Olympic Games SUMMARY: Proclaims that the California Legislature urges the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to continue to include wrestling as a core sport of the Olympic Games. Specifically, this resolution makes the following findings: 1) The IOC Executive Board recently announced that wrestling will be removed from the list of 25 core sports at the 2020 Olympic Games, though this is not final. 2) The IOC Executive Board will meet in May 2013 in St. Petersburg, Russia, to decide which sport or sports to propose for inclusion, and the entire IOC will vote on the final program at the IOC session, or general assembly, in September 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 3) Wrestling was one of the original sports in the ancient Olympic Games in Greece. During the ancient Olympic Games, beginning in 708 B.C., wrestling was the decisive discipline of the Pentathlon. It was the last discipline of the games to be held, after the discus, the javelin, the long jump, and the footrace, and its winner was designated the winner of the Pentathlon, the only crowned athlete of the games. 4) Wrestling is one of the most diverse sports in the world, with nearly 200 nations from all continents participating in the sport. 5) Wrestling is an inclusive sport that provides opportunities worldwide, regardless of geography, race, gender, or physical characteristics, and provides mainstream opportunities to athletes of all physical builds and body sizes, including the blind, deaf, and physically handicapped student athletes who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in athletics.
