June 1, 2020 Today’s word-New King James Version John 1:5, Ephesians 1:18//Zechariah 10//Philippians 4 Today’s word-Street version Proverbs 1 Thought for today In JOHN 1:5 we read, and the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. This, my family, is a picture of someone not receiving the love of God and what light or revelation makes available for all. This verse makes it abundantly clear that our willingness to practice the love of God found in us must come from a place of personal revelation of its need, not with preconceived ideas of how it is to be received. Let me say it this way, you can’t force the love of God or help people receive it, it must simply be released from the heart. Just like our personal “suddenly” caught us in a position of receptivity, so it happens for all. Unfortunately, we see in this verse that those bound by darkness will not comprehend the light they’re exposed to. Consequently our part is to practice love by believing for their “suddenly” opportunity by praying Ephesians 1:18, The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. This is practicing love behind the scenes; believing the light will come on because again, you can’t force that in anyone’s life and the Father definitely won’t. beginning today say this: Great love happens when no one is watching. REVIEW GUIDE 1. And the ___________light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 2. They shall be like mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle.They shall ___________fight because the Lord is with them, and the riders on ____________horses shall be put to shame. (We are the mighty men of today!!! Let’s fight the fight of faith!) 3. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are __________,just whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any ____________virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. (If what you are thinking about doesn’t line up with this, then change what you are thinking!) September 1, 2020 Today’s word-New King James Version Ezekiel 28:15 //Acts 26//2 Corinthians 9 Today’s word-Street version Proverbs 1 Thought for today I don’t normally start a PFS with definitions but this one is going to be a bit different. I want to begin with the word cancel which means neutralize, negate, nullify, abandon, scrap, scratch or nix. This is actually a very demeaning concept especially when we’re speaking of people. We live in a time where people are being demeaned, degraded and canceled, if you will, for whatever reason whether right or wrong. On the other hand we see the word inclusion which means to include or add to a structure; to introduce or involve in one’s plan or group. What makes this interesting is these two ideologies reveal the character and nature of the two ruling spirits in the universe. God, El Shaddi, the creator of the universe and Lucifer, the anointed cherub who revealed his iniquity by thinking he could cancel God and replace Him as the most high. Honestly, we shouldn’t have to go much further to realize he was the original moron. EZEKIEL 28:15 says, Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. Isn’t it funny, the canceler himself was the first one canceled? beginning today say this: Those who cancel will be canceled. REVIEW GUIDE 1. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till ______________ was found in thee. 2. ...to open their eyes, in order to turn them from ________________ to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by ___________ in Me. (...to open their eyes!! At some point we were all blinded; don’t judge others...give them the truth of Jesus that removes the blinders.) 3. Now may He who supplies seed to the __________, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your __________________. (He can’t provide seed to the “thinking about sowing sower”!! Be a sower and you will have seed!!) September 2, 2020 Today’s word-New King James Version Ezekiel 28:15//Acts 27//2 Corinthians 10 Today’s word-Street version Proverbs 2 Thought for today Honestly, Satan has the distinct honor of setting the standard for both deception and stupidity as well as pride and rebellion. Within this angelic being was the twisted idea that he could become what his creator was. As stupid as it sounds, his entire fall was tied to that twisted idea and we aren’t above believing the same idea. We aren’t capable of replacing God and never will be, but that’s a lesson for another day. Let me say this very briefly about angels. They have the ability to make choices but not the authority. Angels were not created in the image of God as we were, but one-third of them chose to go with Lucifer, when he was CANCELED! I’m sure this specific subject goes deeper than I’ve personally researched, but the bottom line is whosoever cancels others will be canceled. In Satan’s lunacy he was delusional enough to think that he was in the same league with his creator. Don’t laugh; when we endeavor to argue or challenge what the Word says we are doing the very same thing. What I want us to see this month is this; if we aren’t wise we will find ourselves doing the same thing as our arch enemy: dishonoring God. beginning today say this: Those who practice deception will be the most deceived. REVIEW GUIDE 1. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was ________ in thee. 2. Therefore I urge you to take _________________, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the _________ of any of you. (God is such a good God!! When you honor His Word there is supernatural protection.) 3. For we dare not class ________________ or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring ________________ by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. (It is never wise to compare yourself to others. Look unto JESUS instead!!!) September 3, 2020 Today’s word-New King James Version Ezekiel 28:13-15//Acts 28//2 Corinthians 11 Today’s word-Street version Proverbs 3 Thought for today I am encouraging you to read EZEKIEL 28:11-19. This was clearly a word from the prophet Ezekiel and quite clearly from the Lord concerning Satan. In verses 13-15 we read, 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. Here we see a description of Satan by the Spirit of God, revealing his beauty as well as his assignment as worship leader. But isn’t it interesting that even this position of honor was not enough? Honestly, that trait has been passed down from generation to generation; where people begin to see themselves on the same level as their creator. Don’t be silly; it didn’t work for Satan and it won’t work for us. beginning today say this: Don’t be deceived; you’ll never be God. REVIEW GUIDE 1.     Imitate God EPHESIANS 5:1-21 Baxter T. Exum (#1283) Four Lakes Church of Christ Madison, Wisconsin October 12, 2014 This morning I’d like for us to return to our study of the New Testament book of Ephesians, and we begin this morning with Ephesians 5:1, where the apostle Paul tells us to “imitate God.” In our pew Bibles, the passage can be found on page 1832 – Ephesians 5, starting in verse 1. In the opening words of Ephesians 5, Paul says, “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.” We know that children will often imitate their parents. As we have learned over and over again up to this point in the book of Ephesians, we are, in fact, God’s children. As Christians, we are “in Christ.” We have been adopted into the family of God. And now, at this point in the book, Paul is now saying that there needs to be a family resemblance. There needs to be a likeness, a similarity. The word he uses, by the way, is the basis for our English word “mimic.” Literally, then, we are to “mimic” our Father in Heaven. We are to imitate God. What does it mean, then, to imitate God? For the next twenty minutes or so, I would like for us to invite the apostle Paul to answer that question. If you will, then, let us please look together at Ephesians 5:1-21 and keep our Bibles open as we study – Ephesians 5:1-21, the word of God as written by the apostle Paul.

Jesus always placed Himself in submission to His Father. It was a willing choice to be submissive to His Father and thereby experience oneness.

I want us to pick up this morning where we left off in our series on Attachment, the gospel and our families. What we’re going to do this morning is we’re going to look at the gospel and Marriage. Next week we’re going to look at the gospel and parenting. Then the gospel in singleness, which we postponed from last week. Then on Father’s Day look at the gospel and manhood. Ephesians 5 contains the longest statement in the New Testament on the relationship between husbands and wives. I don’t have to tell you that when you look at the political and moral landscape of our country today, the foundations for marriage are quickly eroding in our culture. But my goal is not to lament the eroding foundations of marriage in our culture. My goal is to address the eroding foundations of marriage in the Church. To put it bluntly, I am convinced that we have ignored God’s standards for marriage in the Church today. And we have ignored and neglected God’s expectations for marriage in the Church today. As a result, we sorely need, we desperately need to return to what the word of God has to teach about marriage. Now the passage we’re going to look at today was written in the context of the first century, a Greco Roman culture that was self-centered, self-saturated, immoral when it came to marriage and sexuality.

Renwick In our sermons through July and August we are looking at a book in the Bible called Ephesians. It’s a short letter, written by the Apostle Paul the greatest missionary of the early church – written to Christians in and around the city of Ephesus in Asia Minor (modern day Turkey) somewhere within 25-35 years or so, after Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Last week in Ephesians Chapter 4 plus the beginning of 5, we looked at the challenge that Paul laid on every Christian to change their way of life, to keep growing in Christian character because of the message of Christ’s salvation. To Paul, this message of salvation was not just about forgiveness and going to heaven when we die but was also a message about Jesus’ passion and power to change our lives right here and now, to begin to recreate and restore in us his image, so we grow to become like Christ. So Jesus promises not only to love us and claim us as his own, but to come and live inside us powerfully by his Spirit giving us the internal power – the fuel, the energy to enable us to keep on growing in character as long as we live. None of this growth, though, he says, is automatic. Last week we focused on the fact that this spiritual growth – growth in character – comes only as we commit ourselves to develop practical habits (like being with other Christians) that can unleash God’s power within us.
