The son of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) finished Book 1 as the leading stallion, selling 14 yearlings for an aggregate of $865,000 at an average of $61,786. Another sire in the infancy of his stud career who enjoyed a fruitful Adelaide Yearling Sale is Shamus Award (Snitzel), with a filly by the widden Stud-based stallion drawing a winning bid of $150,000 during yesterday’s final session. That bid came courtesy of local trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, who were busy adding to their portfolio of Adelaide purchases having stretched to $110,000 to secure a filly by Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor) on Tuesday. Catalogued as lot 301 and consigned by Willow Grove Stud, the filly is a half-sister to the stakes winning pair Inner Warrior (God’s Own) and Tequila Time (Stratum), the latter of which was trained by Macdonald and Gluyas to beat subsequent Group 1 placegetter Fundamentalist (Not A Single Doubt) in the SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) last year. “She’s quite a nice filly, not overly big I suppose but she’s all there and put together well,” Macdonald told Racing.com. “I was always pretty interested in buying her. “I think they’re very similar (the filly and Tequila Time). If you get a video of them in the paddock they are very similar horses.” Having sold four yearlings at an average of $88,250, only Darley’s Exosphere (Lonhro) fared better than Shamus Award in the leading stallions by average standings. Yesterday’s $150,000 sale came off the back of a Golden Grove- consigned colt by the sire fetching a $160,000 winning bid from Anthony G Cavanagh & Co during Tuesday’s session. Macdonald and Guyas’s spending spree did not end there as the duo parted with $140,000 for a colt by Darley’s first-season sire Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) later in the afternoon. Catalogued as Lot 338 and consigned by Armidale Stud, the colt is the first foal out of the multiple winner and Group 2-placed mare Gwynethanne (Handsome Ransom). The sale capped off a remarkable two days for the Tasmanian- based Armidale Stud, who sold all three of their catalogued yearlings at an average of $133,333. That figure was surpassed only by Grenville Stud, who averaged $163,333 for their three offerings on Tuesday.
