The 24-year-old’s life is a constant balancing act between his “job” – taking classes full-time at the University of Houston in pursuit of a political science degree and eventually law school – and his “hobby”: holding the title of lightweight boxing champion of the world. Diaz (33-0, 17 KO’s) is immersed in six-days-a-week training for a March 8 title defense against Nate Campbell in Mexico, and balancing a larger-than-usual class load this semester.

Bodyweight Training – Wednesday’s weight session features bodyweight training. Each exercise is something Juan can do with only his body. He may start with 50 standard push-ups, then do 10 reps each of plyometric push-ups, wide-stance push-ups and hips-elevated push-ups. He’ll rest for a minute and a half, and then repeat the routine. Rest and repeat. Then Juan will do three sets of pull-ups until failure, followed by three sets of hyperextension back exercises.

Lower Body Weightlifting – Before swimming on Swimming – Juan swims every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
