Now widened with reinforced concrete. Full description and refs. in Hunts Anc Mons File. Originally only c 13ft wide. Stone-work is only visible from one side for (sic) the river. Has been repointed on one side but other side is deteriorating. 01/04/1977. Used for traffic. R1, Wistow Bridge is of stone, repaired in brick, and of three spans. It was built in the C16 or C17 but has modern widening over the cutwaters on both sides in reinforced concrete. The arches are round and plain and the piers have pointed cutwaters on each side. O3, an ancient bridge on the outskirts of the village consisting of three stone arches and somewhat long abutments. Until a few years ago it had wooden railings on each side and was very picturesque, but these have been removed and the road widened by means of a reinforced concrete road cantilevered out on each side, thus giving a roadway wider than the bridge itself and having concrete posts andiron rails as handrails. The ancient stone arches still remain. The S side of the bridge is in good repair protected by cantilevered concrete. Centre arch has been repaired with brick and sides of arches cement washed throughout. The N side is in need of consolidation as stonework is in bad condition with damp very evident and subsequent falling away of stone. The ends of the structural iron beams encased in concrete either side of the central arch are deteriorating, with concrete falling off and metal rusting. The river only flows through the central arch. The channels of the 2 side arches have been raised in concrete by 1/2m. R4 - Consent to excavate 2 cores in the road to the level of the concrete only, to then drill through the bridge to determine the concrete thickness, and to test for load capacity assessment.
