    BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his seventh season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his ninth year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Past research has lent credence to this wisdom. Studies have consistently shown that scoring chances in hockey are produced from fast attacks and short possessions of less than 10 seconds. Thus, many coaches the world over preach a brand of hockey that sacrifices puck control for constant forward motion. As a consequence, hockey is often reduced to a game of Pong – teams exchange the puck back and forth until someone commits a fatal error and a goal is scored. Previous studies have given only a partial picture of the nature of scoring chances. They have implied that the production of a chance is dependent only on the possession immediately prior to that chance. This study will expand on the earlier research by examining the ten possessions prior to a scoring chance, and how they affect the production of that chance. Mestis-seurojen asema suomalaisessa jääkiekkoyhteisössä seuratoimijoiden tulkitsemana. Liikuntatieteellinen tiedekunta, Jyväskylän yliopisto, liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden pro gradu -tutkielma, 129 s., 2 liitettä. Jääkiekko on Suomen suosituin urheilulaji, joka monilla mittareilla mitattuna menestyy nyt jopa paremmin kuin koskaan. On kuitenkin yksi huolenaihe, joka toistuu keskusteluissa kerta toisensa jälkeen: Mestiksen asema sarjajärjestelmässä, jossa SM-liigassa pelaa 15 joukkuetta eikä sarjaan voi nousta urheilullisin perustein karsintojen kautta. Monien laji-ihmisten mielestä tällainen sarjajärjestelmämalli ei tee hyvää suomalaiselle jääkiekolle. Mestiksen näivettymisestä ja seurojen huolestuttavasta tilasta on keskusteltu paljon mediassa, mutta akateemista tutkimusta ilmiöstä ei juuri ole tuotettu. Siksi aiheen tutkiminen on perusteltua. Mestiksen ja SM-liigan väliset karsinnat poistettiin kauden 2012–2013 jälkeen ja käyttöön otettiin niin kutsuttu lisenssimenettely. Seuraavien vuosien aikana SM-liiga laajentui 15 joukkueen sarjaksi. Mestiksen suurseurat Jukurit, KooKoo ja Sport nostettiin juuri lisenssimenettelyn turvin pääsarjaan. Karsintojen poistaminen ja kolmen suurseuran poistuminen on horjuttanut Mestiksen dynamiikkaa. The Rangers’ first round pick (ninth overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft has notched a point in eight of the 16 games he has played in 2020-21, including a goal in seven of the 16 contests. He has also recorded four or more shots on goal in eight of the 16 games he has played this season, and he has either led all skaters in shots on goal or has tied for the game-high in shots on goal in six of the 16 contests. Despite missing seven games this season, he is tied for fifth in the KHL in even strength goals (seven) and is tied for 16th in the league in goals in 2020-21. Kravtsov is also tied for sixth in the KHL in shots on goal per game (3.6) and is tied for 11th in the league (min. 14 games played) in goals per game (0.50) this season. He leads Traktor in goals and even strength goals, and he is tied for second on the team in shots on goal in 2020-21. Among KHL players who are in their U22 season or younger in 2020-21, Kravtsov ranks first in goals, is tied for second in points, and ranks third in plus/minus rating this season. Tuona aikana Internet-sivustoille päivitettävästä materiaalista on puutetta, minkä vuoksi myös vierailujen määrä Internet-sivustolla laskee. Ratkaisuna TUTO Hockey Oy:lle toteutettiin mainospelisovellus, jonka kehittämistä varten kerättiin ensin taustatietoja mainospelien ominaispiirteistä. Tämän lisäksi tutkittiin muiden jääkiekkoseurojen luomia sovellusratkaisuja. Taustatietojen perusteellla luotiin tietokilpailu pelityyppinen mainospelisovellus, joka sisältää mainospeleille ominaisia piirteitä, kuten pelaajan koukuttaminen ja yhteisöllisyys, kuitenkaan tärkeintä eli mainostamista unohtamatta. Mainospeli toteutettiin Unity 3D -pelimoottorin tarjoamassa kehitysympäristössä, MySQL- tietokantayhteyden, XML-merkintäkielen ja C#- sekä PHP-ohjelmointikielien avulla. Lisäksi toteutuksessa käytettiin avuksi Autodesk 3Ds Max-, Adobe Photoshop- ja Audacity- ohjelmistojen tarjoamia toiminnallisuuksia. Tuloksena saatiin tuotettua TUTO Tietäjä -nimeä kantava mainospelisovellus, jossa normaali tietokilpailu pelityyppi yhdistettiin uudenlaisella

Tutkielmassa kotimaisen jääkiekko-organisaation liiketoimintaa on verrattu pohjoisamerikkalaisten NHL:n organisaatioiden liiketoimintamalliin ja on analysoitu niiden keskeisimpiä eroja, pohjoisamerikkalaisten urheiluorganisaatioiden liiketoimintamallia on tarkasteltu kirjallisuuden pohjalta, sekä neljän NHL-organisaation johtotehtävissä olleelle Brian Burkelle tehdyllä teemahaastattelulla.
