G. W. HUNT

G. W. Hunt, who’s MacDermott’s War Song about Russian/Turkish crisis of 1877-78 introduced the word Jingoism into the English Language. This grave was restored in 2000 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow.

Clifton was a singer of motto songs but is perhaps best remembered for Pretty Polly Perkins Of Paddington Green

EDWARD WESTON Weston’s Music Hall in Holborn opened in 1857, later became the Royal Holborn and was then re- built as the Holborn Empire. Sadly the building suffered bomb damage in 1941 and had to be demolished.

This grave was restored in 2001 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow .

PHYLLIS DIXEY Phyllis Dixey was a British singer, dancer and impresario. Her earlier career was as a singer in variety shows in Britain. During World War II, she formed her own company of girls and rented the Whitehall Theatre in London to put on a review called The Whitehall Follies .

This grave was restored in 2005 and the work was carried out by WA Truelove & Son Ltd of Sutton, Surrey.

MAX MILLER

At the request of the Max Miller Appreciation Society, the BMHS paid for the restoration in 2002 of the memorial tablet in Down Crematorium.

This was part of the celebrations commemorating the 40 th anniversary of the death of The Cheeky Chappie in May 2003

A £275 donation was given to The Water Rats towards the restoration of ’s grave. The restoration took place in 2004 in remembrance of the 100 th anniversary of his death.
