BRITISH MUSIC HALL SOCIETY RESTORATION FUND ABNEY PARK CEMETERY Stoke Newington High St, London N16 0LH GEORGE LEYBOURNE & Albert Chevalier George Leybourne was also known as Champagne Charlie . This grave was restored in 2000. The grave is also occupied by Albert Chevalier, who married Leybourne’s daughter, Florrie. The restoration work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow. NELLY POWER She was the original singer of The Boy I Love Is Up in the Gallery . This grave was restored in 2000 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow. G. W. HUNT G. W. Hunt, who’s MacDermott’s War Song about Russian/Turkish crisis of 1877-78 introduced the word Jingoism into the English Language. This grave was restored in 2000 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow. KENSAL GREEN CEMETERY Composed by David Reed Page 1 Harrow Rd, London W10 4RA HARRY CLIFTON Clifton was a singer of motto songs but is perhaps best remembered for Pretty Polly Perkins Of Paddington Green This grave was restored in 2002 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow . NUNHEAD CEMETERY Linden Grove, London SE15 3LP EDWARD WESTON Weston’s Music Hall in Holborn opened in 1857, later became the Royal Holborn and was then re- built as the Holborn Empire. Sadly the building suffered bomb damage in 1941 and had to be demolished. This grave was restored in 2001 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow . TOWER HAMLETS CEMETERY Southern Grove, London E3 4PX ALEC HURLEY Hurley, The Coster King , was Marie Lloyd’s second husband. One of his best known songs is I Ain’t Nobody In Perticiler. This grave was restored in 2001 and the work was carried out by Century Stone of Marlow . EPSOM CEMETERY Composed by David Reed Page 2 Ashley Road, Epsom PHYLLIS DIXEY Phyllis Dixey was a British singer, dancer and impresario. Her earlier career was as a singer in variety shows in Britain. During World War II, she formed her own company of girls and rented the Whitehall Theatre in London to put on a review called The Whitehall Follies . This grave was restored in 2005 and the work was carried out by WA Truelove & Son Ltd of Sutton, Surrey. DOWNS CREMATORIUM BRIGHTON 99 Hartington Rd, Brighton BN2 3PL MAX MILLER At the request of the Max Miller Appreciation Society, the BMHS paid for the restoration in 2002 of the memorial tablet in Down Crematorium. This was part of the celebrations commemorating the 40 th anniversary of the death of The Cheeky Chappie in May 2003 BRIGHTON 25, Burlington Gardens BN41 2DS MAX MILLER The BMHS sponsored plaque for Max Miller Spring 1980 which is pre Restoration Fund. Composed by David Reed Page 3 LAMBETH CEMETERY Blackshaw Rd, Tooting, London SW17 0BY DAN LENO A £275 donation was given to The Water Rats towards the restoration of Dan Leno’s grave. The restoration took place in 2004 in remembrance of the 100 th anniversary of his death. The work was carried out by A E Vaughan & Co Ltd of Tooting. Composed by David Reed Page 4 .
