The Greyhound bus is the first of five used by Madden durinG his time as a brodcaster. The “Madden Cruiser” is located in the Hall’s main parkinG lot for fans to step onto and look around throuGhout the summer from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, weather permittinG. Madden used the bus after his retirement from coachinG to avoid flyinG. The interior of the “Madden Cruiser” has been restored to its oriGinal condition and features two color televisions, a telephone and intercommunications system, a citizens band radio, two laser disc players, a built in vacuum cleaner, a stereo system and a videotapr player. There also is a queen-sized bed in a private bedroom with a private bathroom and a kitchette complete with a microwave oven. NFL’s 100th Season Kicks Off at the 2019 Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls (Aug. 1-4) ProFootballHOF.com/Tickets EXHIBITS UPDATED AT THE HALL OF FAME The winners of the 51st annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Photo Contest were put on display at the Hall this week. The winninG imaGe, “Eye on the Ball” by Jacob Gonzalez, depicts San Francisco 49ers GeorGe Kittle attemptinG to complete a catch aGainst former Los AnGeles Rams linebacker Mark Barron in Dec. 30, 2018 Game at Los AnGeles Memorial Coliseum. All the contest winninG photos can be viewed in the Hall’s exhibit. Additionally, the curatorial team at the Hall has placed several items on display in the Pro Football Today Gallery. The mementos recently added to exhibits include: • GEORGE HALAS’ rookie recruitinG letter (pictured top riGht) • Houston Texans defensive end J.J. HALL’S YOUTH & EDUCATION TEAM HOSTS “WOMEN IN THE NFL” PROGRAM The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Youth & Education Team hosted a special “Women in the NFL” program on Thursday providing students the opportunity to hear from Natara Holloway, the National Football LeaGue’s Vice President of StrateGic Business Operations. Students from New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Texas were able to interact with Holloway throuGh Facebook Live. She spoke about her career path, what she learned alonG the way and left students with advice to ensure they reach their Goals. “There is nothinG that I can do on my own here. It is really about team, tryinG to find those people that are on the team that are really GoinG to support you is critical to success within the NFL. SCHOOLS ALUMNI HALL OF FAME Pro Football Hall of Famer CLAUDE HUMPHREY was inducted into the Shelby County (Tenn.) Schools Alumni Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors notable Graduates of its schools for their professional accomplishments and work in the community. Honorees have included athletes, actors, activists and politicians. Humphrey, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2014, Graduated from Lester HiGh School in Shelby County. FREE KICKOFF TO SUMMER EVENT THIS SATURDAY ON THE HALL’S CAMPUS The Pro Football Hall of Fame will host a free event on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to kick off the summer travel season. The family friendly event will include a football skills combine, a “Touch-a-Truck” display, inflatables and Games on the Hall’s campus. Additionally, with each full- priced adult Museum admission purchased, Guests will receive one free children’s Museum admission. The football skills combine will allow kids to test their athletic abilities on the Hall’s FieldTurf in a fun interactive experience, includinG a 40-yard dash, vertical jump and more. The “Touch-a-Truck” display will feature a wide variety of vehicles for Guests to explore and take photos, includinG Stark County Sheriff’s Office K9 Vehicle & Ford Raptor with side-by-side and trailer, Canton Police Department Motorcycle & Swat Truck, Sarchione Auto LeGend Truck, snow plow courtesy of Rice’s Nursery, SARTA Bus, Stark Country Library Bookmobile, mini excavator, skid steer and bulldozer. The longtime NFL stars added an achievement that will without a doubt move to the top of their accolade-filled biographies when they were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame inAugust, 2014. Jones and Brooks became the first pair of first-ballot Hall of Famers from the same class who attended the same college in over 40 years. The pair’s journey together started 20 years ago. Just as Brooks was wrapping up his All-America career at Florida State in 1994, Jones was joining the Seminoles out of Holmes Community College (Miss.) for the 1995 season. DERRICK BROOKS Linebacker 1991-94 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame WALTER JONES Offensive Tackle 1995-96 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame 138 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME They never played on the same team at Florida State, but Jones distinctly remembers how excited he was to follow in the footsteps of the star linebacker whom he called the face of the Seminoles’ program. Jones and Brooks were the best at what they did for over a decade in the NFL. Brooks went to 11 Pro Bowls and never missed a game in 14 seasons (all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), while Jones became the NFL’s premier left tackle, going to nine Pro Bowls over 12 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Both retired in 2008, and, six years later, Jones and Brooks were teammates for the first time as first-ballot Hall of Famers.

    PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2020-2021 EDITIOn QUARTERBACK JIM KELLY - hall of fame class of 2002 BUFFALO BILLS Team History The Buffalo Bills began their pro football life as the seventh team to be admitted into the new American Football League. The franchise was awarded to Ralph C. Wilson on October 28, 1959. Since that time, the Bills have experienced extended periods of both championship dominance and second-division frustration. The Bills’ first brush with success came in their fourth season in 1963 when they tied for the AFL Eastern division crown but lost to the Boston Patriots in a playoff. In 1964 and 1965 however, they not only won their division but defeated the San Diego Chargers each year for the AFL championship. Head Coach Lou Saban, who was named AFL Coach of the Year each year, departed after the 1965 season. Buffalo lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1966 AFL title game and, in doing so, just missed playing in the first Super Bowl. Then the Bills sank to the depths, winning only 13 games while losing 55 and tying two in the next five seasons. Saban returned in 1972, utilized the Bills’ superstar running back, O. J. Simpson, to the fullest extent and made the Bills competitive once again. That period was highlighted by the 2,003-yard rushing record set by Simpson in 1973. But Saban departed in mid-season 1976 and the Bills again sank into the second division until a new coach, Chuck Knox, brought them an AFC Eastern division title in 1980.

There were actually some reports last week suggesting that were he alive today, Al Davis, would not have allowed this combined fleecing of Raider fans, the taxpayers of Oakland, and those of Las Vegas.

Football is an American holiday tradition, a promoter of corporations and universities, a staple of towns, a grower of leaders and promoter of teamwork, a symbol of war, a topic of controversy denounced by some as promoting violence, sexism, and greed, and supported as promoting family values in a religious setting by others. Depending on one's point of view, football may symbolize everything that is right or wrong with American culture and society.

The subtle signs have been apparent for decades to anyone now searching for the answer to the most important football question in Denver: Who will be entrusted in the future with the team’s championship dreams? Well, perhaps the first clue could be found way back in 1998, during the celebration of the team’s first Super Bowl victory. Brittany Bowlen was a child born into Broncomania. It’s in her blood. But as the throng in Civic Center Park cheered quarterback John Elway’s successful quest for the Lombardi Trophy on that winter afternoon back in ’98, and a triumphant Pat Bowlen raised his hands in salute to the raucous crowd, a little blonde girl, no more than 8 years old at the time, stood stoically alongside the team’s owner, her arms snugly folded across her tiny chest, in a serious pose almost identical to one often struck by her father during pensive moods. Like father, like daughter. More than two decades after that open-air party in downtown Denver to toast victory in Super Bowl XXXII, during a break Friday in the celebration for the long-overdue induction of Mr. B to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Brittany Bowlen, now 29 years old, stood alongside the lockers in the hallways of a Canton school and confessed: “I do find myself, once in a while, being with my friends and saying: ‘Is anybody having any fun around here?’” Before her next breath, she rushed to cover her mouth with a hand.
