POEM Happy Christmas! Christmas means “The Feast of Christ” The time we celebrate the birth Of Jesus Christ, God’s only son The time that He came down to earth.

That Gift of God to all mankind The greatest gift that God could give To demonstrate His love to us This special gift that we might live.

So- Let’s celebrate with gifts of love With feasting and with merry cheer But not forget the reason why We keep this special time of year

When God’s own Son came down to earth To live for us and then to die A cruel death to take our sins That WE might live with Him on high.

Persimmon Homes’ response did not address all concerns and a further report was sent in August 2017 (having given them time to undertake further works). Persimmon have now confirmed they do not intend to carry out any further works

Community Centre Berryfields Ongoing Talks are moving forward to ensure WPC is appointed as the centre’s Management Entity and WPC has already agreed to create a charitable trust to oversee the day-to-day running of the building. Snagging issues including fire safety concerns are being addressed after which it is hoped the legalities can be signed off. If you would like to be part of that charitable trust, please contact the clerk.

Covanta Incinerator Stewartby parish Ongoing WPC is bitterly disappointed to learn the Environment Agency has granted an Environmental Permit to Covanta Energy Ltd and that a recent Judicial Review Claim against the Environment Agency has ruled against BACI’s claim to quash the permit. BACI are now considering the viability of an appeal against the decision. For fuller information please visit their website: https://bedsagainstincinerator.wordpress.com/

Marston Vale Innovation Park Towards the A421 Ongoing BBC approved the proposal despite WPC’s and numerous objections. A Development Liaison Group (consisting of parish councillors and residents) met in September 2018 with representatives from BBC and Goodmans (who will be developing the Innovation Park). The idea is to pass as much information on to residents to keep everyone informed on latest developments. Please check our website and Facebook page for further information.

A fallen ash tree (December 2016) necessitated some works already and WPC has taken forward a structural engineer report which highlighted the wall’s instability in parts. Advice from Historic is to rebuild the wall using the reclaimed bricks and WPC is currently determining the best way forward. WPC continues to chase Historic England for further assistance and advice

The project has been delayed as BBC have had numerous similar requests from other parish and town councils, so need to agree how best to proceed

Mr Richardson, former Head of PE, has done a wonderful job, in re-establishing Duke of Edinburgh at the school. We now have pupils working for silver and gold awards as well as a new cohort stating their bronze award.

As always the arts have featured Mrs Genders and Mrs Williamson, PE Department, with the scarecrow they created prominently at the school and four performances of Grease the Musical sold out very quickly in October. In November the performance went on tour to Bremen. Quite a lot of village residents came along to the show and the general consensus was that it was one of the best yet. None of us should ever take for granted the excellent facilities and staff the school has in Dance, Drama and Music. Our next major event is the Christmas Concert on Thursday December 13.

We have worked very hard to continue to develop our role within the Wootton village community and we were pleased to take part in the scarecrow competition and also to play a part in the village’s commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of the end of World War 1 including a poppy display. Over the next year, we will be opening a Peace Garden, outside the Library; this is another of The Salvador Dali scarecrow produced by Art our Lauren Chatley, Library Manager’s Club pupils and Art Department staff, innovative ideas. During the term we said good bye to Mrs Sandra Powlette, teacher of Science and to two colleagues who have retired, Mrs Marion Death, who provided amazing support to lots of pupils in our Student Centre and also to Mr Colin Bolam, after twenty-seven years in the Design Field gun silhouette designed and made by Wootton Upper School as part of the Wootton Technology Department and more WWI commemoration display recently the Estates Team. We marked the retirement of both colleagues so we could both thank them and also wish them well in the future. At the end of term, we bid farewell to Mrs Alison Amatsah, teacher of Computing.

Before the end of term all of our pupils will visit St Mary’s Church for a Christmas Service, one of our many traditions. The last day of term for pupils is Wednesday December 19 and pupils return to school after the holiday on Thursday January 3. For many years we have held a two- minute silence on the nearest school day to Remembrance Day. This year we developed our practice in holding special assemblies where pupils and staff came together. Our collective thanks go to Reverend Peter Ackroyd for speaking at each of these assemblies and also to Chris Ashpole for representing the Royal British Legion.

Our fundraising this term has included the Poppy Day appeal where we held a mufti day, had collections after each
