Principal: Mr David Herbert BSc PGCE NPQH 15th July 2019 Dear Parents/Carers, Re: A Level and BTEC Art, Design and Photography Induction Trip As an induction to their course the Art and Design Department are running a trip to St Ives, Cornwall. Your son/daughter will complete drawings, take photographs, visit galleries and take part in team building activities, which will provide an excellent foundation for their journey ahead as creative practitioners at Budmouth Academy. The activities will satisfy the key assessment objectives in both the A Level and BTEC specifications. Our trip is timed perfectly with St Ives’ September Festival, which offers a wide range of music, arts and literature events in locations throughout St Ives, attracting visitors from far and wide. Schedule: Friday 20th September Depart Budmouth Academy at 8am Travel by minibus arriving in St Ives at approx. 12pm Afternoon – team building activities and explore St Ives Evening – Orfeo at the open air Minack Theatre – 7-11pm Saturday 21st September Morning – Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden Afternoon – Tate St Ives + Free time in St Ives to take photographs, draw and visit the festival Evening – group meal out Sunday 22nd September Depart St Ives at 10am Visit Eden Project to draw and take photographs of Tropical and Mediterranean plant life Arrive back to Budmouth Academy at 6:30pm The cost of this trip is £115 (£119 if your son/daughter is over 16 years old) to be paid in cash at the finance office by Friday 13th September. This includes minibus travel, overnight stay in a hostel, breakfast and snack items during hostel stay, theatre and gallery tickets and insurance. Spending money will be required for lunch, dinners, additional snacks, souvenirs and postcards. There will be a meeting on Monday 16th September at 3pm which all participants should attend. Spaces on this trip are limited, so please can you email [email protected] if you would like to register interest or find out more. Spaces cannot be reserved. There are picturesque harbours and grand country houses set in vast acreages. There are impressive landmarks from the past such as Tintagel Castle, St Michael’s Mount and more standing stones and Neolithic sites than you can shake a stick at. envision case study: ProjectBase: Art Ambassadors 1 of 12 ProjectBase Case Study: Art Ambassadors 1 Summary Project Base worked with 42 young people through formal education and detached youth workers in rural districts of Cornwall to discuss arts provision in their area. The project has created new partnerships, new ideas and enthusiasm from young people about how they can make decisions about their cultural provision. This project has become the starting point for future work with each group. 2 The context 2.1 The organisation ProjectBase (formerly St Ives International) was established in 1996 as an arts commissioning organisation for Cornwall. It aims to devise, develop and deliver multi-site visual arts exhibitions and projects working in partnership with other local arts providers. Organisational partners include the Tate St Ives, Newlyn Art Gallery and the University College of Falmouth. ProjectBase has 4 full time staff and is regularly funded by Arts Council South West; annual turnover fluctuates but was £41,681 for 2005. 2.2 The situation Project Base wanted to explore new partnerships and audiences outside of the Penwrith district, which hosts Tate St Ives and Newlyn Art Gallery. This project aimed at engaging young people from two other districts not worked with before, to inform a countywide youth arts programme developed with young people. 3 The project 3.1 Planning The research targeted Kerrier and Restormel districts. Both areas include rural and urban communities facing social and economical challenges due to loss of traditional industry and the seasonal effects of tourism. The project enabled ProjectBase and itʼs partners to open up a dialogue with young people exploring ways that they could get involved in future programming, including youth arts forums and the arts ambassadors scheme.
