St. Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic Parish Community

“Where Earth meets Heaven” We pray & worship. We are a Priestly community.

• The personal question/action for today: How have I thought of grace? Why was Mary addressed as “full of grace”? Do I sometimes limit GOD’s grace by my own (sinful) thoughts and actions? To what aspects of my life do I need to respond to GOD’s invitation by saying “Fiat – Let it be”? How can I help others realize that GOD wants them to receive the divine of grace?

Shine to NEWS By: Naomi Cayaba-Lewis

The Shine to Shrine Committee held a thanksgiving celebration at the evangelization rooms on Fri- day, November 16. Our SLR liaisons from other parishes were invited as a show of appreciation for their all-out support and active participation which brought about the resounding success of our recently held October Triduum.

The 3-day event (October 18,-20), was a pilot initiated to bring together ministry leaders from other parishes to honor the of our dearest patron. The event was also an attempt to begin a tradition of immersing spirituality, outreach and unity into the symbolic meaning of the five faces of St. Lorenzo Ruiz, where pure faith turns ordinariness to chivalry and greatness in the eyes of the Al- mighty. Likewise, the October triduum was a means to get out the simple message that defined the soul and character of St. Lorenzo Ruiz: “If I had a thousand lives, I would give them all to the Lord.”

In our present day world, heaped with complexities, trials, anxieties, confusion and pervasive evil, we, as ordinary followers of Christ, may choose to step back from the rigors of our daily grind and focus instead on Christ by being “alive martyrs” through prayer, education and service; thus, we may hope merit in the merciful ways of the Lord.

The thanksgiving celebration started with a prayer, excerpts of which, read, “… Lord, we thank you for generously granting us our prayers of good weather, remarkable attendance from other parishes and happy faces from volunteers and guests. Because everything comes from you, we are now ready and trust to trek the road to tradition where each year shall be made witness to this special event to honor the life and martyrdom of a great , Lorenzo Ruiz. We remain your servants, Lord, promising tireless work even after we are conferred the honorific title of Diocesan Shrine…”

Food overflowed, St. Lorenzo Ruiz mini statues were given out, dancing ensued (thank you, Alvin Sunga for the sound system), but most distinct of all was the camaraderie, bonding and the feeling of oneness that engulfed the night.

Thank you, Lord, and to all the Shine to Shrine committee members whose intense marketing ploy truly worked, you are the sporadic bright colors of awesomeness. Special thanks also to Jeri Poli- carpio, Gaby Coria, and Ralph and Maureen Jaramillo for taking that extra step to help promote the Triduum celebration in the parish. Blessings to all!

Until next year, 2019. Save the dates. October 18, 19, 20

2018 Christmas Eve Living Gospel Mass

Children of St. Lorenzo Ruiz Church

The Children’s Choir will be singing at the 5:00 PM Christmas Eve Vigil Mass. As has been our tradition in the past, the children of our Parish will present the Living Gospel – the story of Mary and as they make their way to the stable in Bethlehem where our Savior Jesus Christ was born. Choir and Living Gospel procession begins at 4:15 PM.

Please let us know if your child would like to join in the presentation of this beautiful and holy evening. In addition to participating with the Children’s Choir, participants will have the opportunity to play the part of an angel, a shepherd, a narrator, Mary or Joseph or they may choose to just sing as a member of the choir. We will also need parents to help the children with costumes, assist with all practices and before and during the Mass.
