Biofacies, taphofacies, and depositional environments in the north of Neotethys Seaway (Qom Formation, Miocene, Central Iran) Mahdiyeh Mahyad, Amrollah Safari *, Hossein Vaziri-Moghaddam, Ali Seyrafian Department of Geology, Faculty of Sciences, University of Isfahan, Isfahan, 81746-73441, Iran *Corresponding author E-mails address: [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract: This research attempted to reconstruct the sedimentary environment and depositional sequences of the Qom Formation in Central Iran, using biofacies and taphofacies analyses. The Qom Formation in the Andabad area with 220 m of thickness is located at N 3°48’12.6” and E 47°59’28”. The thickness of the Qom Formation in the Nowbaran area (N 35°05’22.5” and E 49°41’00”) was found to be 458 m. In both areas, the formation mainly consists of shale and limestone. The lower boundary between the Qom and Lower Red formations is unconformable in both areas. In the Nowbaran area, the Qom Formation is covered by recent alluvial sediments. In the Andabad area, the Qom Formation was unconformably overlaid by the Upper Red Formation. A total of 122 limestone and 15 shale rock samples were collected from the Andabad area, and 94 limestone and 24 shale rock samples were collected from the Nowbaran area. Analysis of the collected samples resulted in the recognition of nine biofacies, one terrigenous facies, and five taphofacies within the Qom Formation in the both areas. Based on the vertical distributions of biofacies, the Qom Formation is deposited on an open shelf carbonate platform. This carbonate platform can be divided into three subenvironments: inner shelf (restricted and semi-restricted lagoon), middle shelf, and outer shelf.

FishTaxa (2017) 2(1): 33-42 ISSN: 2458-942X Journal homepage: www.fishtaxa.com © 2016 FISHTAXA. All rights reserved Article Re-description of Barbus miliaris De Filippi, 1863 (Teleostei: Cyprinidae) from the endorheic Namak Lake basin of Iran Roozbehan KHAEFI1, Saber VATANDOUST2, Hamid Reza ESMAEIL*1 1Ichthyology and Molecular Systematics Lab., Department of Biology, College of Sciences, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran. 2Department of Fisheries, Babol Branch, Islamic Azad University, Babol, Iran. Corresponding author: E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Barbus miliaris was described in 1863 by De Filippi on the basis of three specimens collected from the endorheic Namak Lake basin (a stream near Tehran). But it was later assigned to the subspecies of Barbus lacerta, B. cyclolepis or Luciobarbus mursa. Here, we revalidate and re- describe it. Barbus miliaris is distinguished from the other species of Barbus by having more scales along the lateral line (69-87, mode 77 vs. 50-66, mode 57 in B. cyri; 52-66, mode 61 in B. lacerta) and 80-95% of the posterior margin of the last unbranched dorsal-fin ray covered with denticles (vs. 60-70%). Barbus miliaris is also distinguished from B. cyri by having more predorsal scales (37-47, mode 42 vs. 24-34, mode 29); a narrower upper lip (its width 4-6 vs. 7-9 %HL). In B. miliaris, the maxillary barbel is longer than that of the others (26-41 vs. 12–32 %HL in other species, not reaching to posterior eye margin vs. reaching in B. lacerta). Keywords: Freshwater fish, Middle East, Taxonomy, Distribution.

The objective of the project is to promote sustainable infrastructure in five selected settlements to improve refugees’ livelihood through low-carbon energy, waste and water infrastructure. The key target group of the project will be the refugees residing in the settlements (with special attention to youth and women), with a view to strengthen their capacities and access to job opportunities through vocational trainings and appropriate action plans. A. CONTEXT A1. Project Purpose The strategic approach envisaged by United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO) is based on the premise that it is critical to enhance the access of communities to reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for creating productive capacities and job opportunities. In addition, this approach emphasizes the need to empower refugees with skills, tools and knowledge to engage in economic activities and to ensure that they are able to sustain their daily lives with dignity in countries of their (temporary) settlement.

  • Let Us Not Neglect . Strengthening Our Relations
2 Editorial Irano-British Quarterly Magazine No. 66 Let us not neglect . strengthening our relations For whatever the reason, it is obvious to all that Iran is currently going through an un- precedented rough patch in all aspects of daily life especially in its economy. But we must bear in mind that this period will defi- nitely pass hopefully sooner than later. Iran is a large country with vast potentiali- ties and any number of natural advantages that logically cannot do other than to posi- tively affect both its domestic and interna- tional realities sooner or later. Fear mongering pessimists must not be al- lowed to frighten us. Colonialization and conquest are things of the past. We are in the era of comprehensive global economic development. So today, while waiting for the better days to come and despite the all the existing inadequacies, developing and maintaining strong mutual relations must not be neglected but should be the priority and responsibility of our joint chambers. Dr. Amir Houshang Amini Irano-British Quarterly Magazine No. 66 Report 3 Iran's foreign trade during the First month of year 1398 (20 March 2019 to 20 April 2019) According to the statistics of the I.R of of the year 1398 are as indicated in the Iran's Customs Department, the Iran's for- following tables: eign trades volume during the First month Primary import/export statistics of non-oil goods with the calculation of gas’s Liquidities during the first month of 1398 First month of the year first month of the year Percent of changes 1398 1397 Activity Weight Value Weight Value (Thousand (Million (Thousand (Million Weight Value tons) Dollar) tons) Dollar) Import 2.083 2.334 1.933 2.528 7.75 -7.65 Export 8.527 2.547 7.921 3.115 7.66 -18.25 4 Report Irano-British Quarterly Magazine No.
